here's the famous (or infamous) orderrealm general, recreated in a new handcrafted model with a detailed face sculpt and elaborate iridescent armor. like his nemesis havik, he hasn't gotten a new model since 2004, so this is my attempt to do him justice in a mkx style update. love him or hate him, hotaru definitely has a striking outfit, so i've tried to recreate his new model in a similar style. all his armor is layered in optional pieces, with a matching bodysuit beneath and full posing features. hope you like him - this is model #70!

detailed info:
-hotaru is a new design but closely inspired by his original model and his firefly theme, with the insect exoskeleton look and gold trim over dark glossy material. he also has a fitted matching bodysuit beneath the outer armor shell. everything's handpainted as usual with an oil-slick iridescent style, using colorful shine effects to achieve the distinctive appearance
-hotaru's face is hand-sculpted from a mkx base, trying to resemble the version of him in his promo renders. while it's not exact to his original mkd/mka game model (i got the actual one after i'd already completed hotaru), he's distinctive and it suits him well. he's very good-looking
-like my other mkx-based faces, he has the simplified face posing structure for easier expressions, with root control points for the eyebrows, cheeks, lips, mouth corners, and more - plus the control point for the mouth corners, which is particularly useful when opening or closing his jaw hinge
-i took some creative license and made up a new style of unique fantasy eyes for orderrealmers/chaosrealmers - hotaru's eyes are light gold with orange pupils to represent his lava powers
-no flags on this version, but he'll eventually get the flags back in a future model, don't worry
-his hair is fully rigged by hand with over forty individual posing points, so it can blow majestically in the wind while he's trying to chase down havik
-his outfit was assembled from both mkx and mk9 elements - while i based his bodysuit on a complete mkx mobile model (with lots of new repainted details), his armor is layered on by hand, with new pieces constructed and added
-parts of the armor can be added and removed individually via the optional items menu, including: arms, chest, collar, legs, shoulders, skirt, and thighs. the pieces on his shoulders and the flaps around his waist (the skirt) have individual controls, labeled 'arm shoulder armor right/left 1/2' and 'skirt front/back right/left' for extra posability
-his posing armature follows the mkx standard although he has three spine posing points (lower, middle a, upper). based on my testing, everything works as it should, and if it doesn't, let me know
-preview pose included as hotarupreview.pose

You deserve to be proud of your Hotaru! I LOVE his armor! The iridescence catches my eye every time! It also helps that he's very handsome as well. This is easily one of your best models yet!

He is like the boyfriend or girlfriend that you started out loving for the first few months but turns out the said person is a complete ASS eventually!
That is my thoughts when I think back on him lol My brothers and I loved his design and naginata weapon style, it was all amazing. We thought it was all cool in the Konquest mode but eventually sh!t hit the fan really quick with him. After all that nonsense, there was no going back to our loving relationship lmao.

haha, for me he's totally vice versa! i didn't have any reasons to like him other than him looking pretty... but then i got thinking about him and figured out where he'd fit in my story plotline, and then the rest is history - he may be a jerk, but he has some redeeming qualities, and with a little storyline development, he really could be wonderful. i've intentionally avoided playing the old games til my own plotline is complete, because if the new timeline is going to totally throw out everything about them that matters (as with havik), i have license to rebuild them too... but in likeable form
the naginata is an exceptionally cool weapon (and it got ported along with his mkd model! so i can give it back to him sometime). i don't know how soon h & h will get battle editions, but hey, maybe eventually
