Lousy title eh?

I am always hesistant to add new art when it has something to do with stock art. Stock artists work hard to provide great reference pics for photomanipulators and traditional artists. Therefore, I try to create something that shows how much I appreciate thier work. My biggest fear using stock photos is that the stock artist would either hate my work or find something offensive in it though the artist did not intend for anything to be offensive. This fear grows tenfold when the stock image involves a child. That said...

I hope that astrals-stock likes my piece since I did change a few things from the original stock image.

This image was inspired by series on mermaids. The model was the stockartist's daughter, an adorable girl.

As anyone can see, I am not good with backgrounds. I had to draw this image over three times before I was satisfied with the current image you see above...although I still have some doubts. I am always trying to improve my watercoloring skills and I hope it shows. The problem I had most trouble with was scanning the image itself into the computer. I kept trying to adjust the lighting, shadows, and contrasts so it would look like it does when you see the piece in person...I don't think it worked out too well.

Image was done entirely in watercolor and took seven days to color. I think this image will be the last of the summer before returning to college. As soon as I step unto the campus on Saturday, August 19 (classes don't start till Wednesday), art will become more scarce since class assignments for graduating seniors tend to pile up very quickly.
