The original The trees have eyes photo had lighting that really shows off just how three-dimensional the imitation leaf veins are. This shot, on the other hand, really shows off the imitation leaf damage. This planthopper's leaf-mimicry is truly amazing; I mean just let the fact that evolution produced a detail like leaf distress for the camouflage soak in for a minute. That is totally mind-blowing to me.

Part of my strategy is to take many, many photos in order to get a single "keeper". This leaves many almost-"keepers" and shots with different angles. I try not to submit too many alternate shots, but sometimes I think that I made the wrong choice as to what was the "keeper" shot. Now that some time has passed, the angle of the original shot has lost its artistic charm for me. This shot feels more deliberate and makes the original feel wonky in comparison.
