Description neutral from Raw no other raw adjustment.

Using layers I cranked up contrast to 100% and adjusted levels curve to really bring out the clouds. using the masking I masked out the area of the tree's and such, then used gaussian blur on the mask to smooth the transition.

i can see what you mean. looks great after fiddling.

to be fair though, the clouds did look pretty awesome before too.

Yes the clouds were strong, but after fiddling it makes them look just plain ominous they come alive.

yeah. i'm definitely going to try this.

i worry though that so much post-processing is cheating...?

LOL you have posted HDR images that are very cooked and your worried about post processing... heehee

I tend to lean toward the catching reality side, I take some crap for it too. But in the larger scheme you have to decide are you capturing reality, your idea, or are you trying to capture the feeling.

For me I am learning its not the reality I want to capture like I once thought it was, and its not even really my vision, its the feeling of something, and often the reality doesn't capture the feeling correctly. The reality of those clouds i posted don't capture what the feeling of them were, the 2nd edition captures the feeling of them well.
