Description
Edit; my scanner likes to kill colours, so recently I have been editing drawings to look like the original again before uploading. I'm now going through old drawings and picking favourites to edit as well, and restore their original colours this drawing is very special to me so it's the first!!
My 12th and 13th OC; Kyokotsuke (human) and Daisuke. (dragon) I originally drew this in 2009 and it was just Kyokotsuke, but it looked a lot worse. I updated what I could, and added Daisuke in the summer of 2012, and finally coloured it this past summer of 2013. These particular characters are really important to me, so please take the time to read and comment It would mean a lot.
Also, I strongly encourage you to read the poem linked at the bottom. It's old, and unappreciated, but it will really give you an idea of their clan and I'd love to get it some attention
Character and clan back-story;
Kyokotsuke is the young leader of the Black Dragon Clan, a spirited self-sufficient clan living in a large village hidden deep in a dense forest. This clan has made peace for themselves, hidden away in their village, and has tasked themselves with spreading peace throughout the surrounding lands, asking no reward. They have structure around how one becomes a full warrior and is assigned tasks, and all of this falls under Kyokotsuke's leadership.
The origin of their clan is unknown, even to them, as it dates back further than their memories and records, but they have always had the blessing of receiving partnership from dragons. Everyone in this family bonds with one, at a seemingly random point in their life, though these dragons still seem a mystery to them. Their partner dragon comes to them when the partner human is ready, and there is an instant connection. From that point on, they are bonded and inseparable. Once the human dies, the dragon might die along side them, or disappear mysteriously and only re-appear after much time has passed, to bond again, usually with a direct descendant of their former partner. Kyokotsuke's partner is Daisuke, a very large and proud dragon who has come from many fathers in his family line.

Personality;
- VERY honourable, believes strongly in justice, and doing what's right
- extremely skilled with his sword, but remains very modest (yet confident) about it and uses these skills only when need be
- when not dealing with business or not in a fight, he is somewhat fun loving, as well as compassionate, kind hearted, and gentle

Hehehe, I'd say I know how killer some poses might be >3
And though I do love to challenge myself with dem poses (might not show with some charas, but sometimes it might be too much for my style, too keep the image clear), I do realize not everyone is like that XD

Yeah that does make sense, about your style making complex poses hard to fit in clearly. Me personally, I always like doing new poses, almost every drawing (of OCs at least) has a new pose, which only gets inconvenient when it's suppose to be for a ref and the pose ends up blocking parts of the clothes LOL that happens way too often...

Hehe, even idle standing can be different with each chara, or at least that's what I aim for on my ref images ^^
Though as far as my tribal arts go, if the character design fits to a more complex pose (or outright calls for it in some occassions), I'm always willing to give it a shot >3
It's just that sometimes some important or cool looking details might be covered, or it might make it less clear, that's when I reconsider some simpler ones |3

It depends actually, this part is unknown to the clan as they have no real way to confirm it, but they never die of old age. Sometimes, after about 1000 years minimum, if a dragon is feeling very spent and warn it will bond with a more docile partner, perhaps one that doesn't go into battle often or at all, and when the human partner passes away, so will the dragon.
Others, like Daisuke, have been around for nearly 3000 years!

They've got an interesting backstory, I like how the peaceful scenery contrasts with the intensity of a ninja clan leader and a giant dragon staring the viewer down. c:

No problem on both accounts! c: Yeah backgrounds can be tough at times, but they're an interesting challenge! ^u^
