This piece I made for me...the actual first acrylic for this experimental phase I am initiating. My dear friend Sandra Baraci whose talent exceeds excess is always encouraging me to be bold with colour and not hide my backgrounds behind things. She in fact is my inspiration for abstract expression.So this is it...colour and texture and pattern, unobscured.

Original abstract in acrylic with hand blended pulverized pearl and 24kt gold on 150 lb cold press cotton paper. Measures 12 x 47cm.

yes painting with acrylics can be alot of fun. They are so different from watercolours and working on a canvas also changes things up a bit. It always makes me want to do experiments to see what I can learn. Thank you for your comment.

hehe.. yeah .. well.... if i didn't i wouldn't fav it... and why should i write a whole story about it? it appeals to me.. i like the colours, movement, shapes..... what more to say??

oddly so. I keep hearing that there are faces,, and asian women and yet I see none. But I like that everyone else is seeing things

Honestly I'm not the biggest fan of abstracts but occasionally I stumble upon beauties like this, and when I do I don't look for images but appreciate them for the abstracts they are. I'm not sure why images pop out so vividly from this one. I see zorro (very top in the middle, c'mon!

I painted these on a heating pad. You know the kind you use when you have a back ache? And I use my roommates cats whiskers that he sheds as a brush. One wisker on a heated piece of cotton paper. moving pigment, drying fast. An intense but worthy experiment.

Many thanks! It was a little scary to start off with the intense yellow orange and crazy blue colour, but I did it as a dare to myself....to make myself love something intense and altogether overwhelming to me...and I just kept working with it. It was a fun experiment and I do love the result. Who knew such crazy colours ...

Yes, I think the pictures that we challenge ourselves to go outside our comfort zones almost always turn out to be our best. I hope you decide to keep working with such colors because the result is amazing

yes, these colours were inspired by your own work madam. I wanted to do something bold and crazy with the colours and thought about some of your earlier works, and how I envied your ease with working with such pure and vivid colours...mixed up the paint and almost died when I applied it to the paper. Hahaha
It took a moment, but then I thought about it, and how much I like your work...I just went with it. Colours rock Lela. I am still afraid of them in saturated form, but they rock! Thanks for the fav. I had hoped that you would like this one.
