Description A fighter pilot enjoying the nice view on an asteroid. Or maybe he ran out of fuel and he's stuck.

Credits for the awesome clouds on the planet go to Sami Mattila. Check out his work at his page Smattila !

Great art! Maybe the pilot only stopped to enjoy the wiev or possibly sleep?

Hey, these are great! I have some questions....do you think it's possible to use this technology to create comic book images? And how time consuming would it be to create the visuals for a standard comic book -- which is like 6 panels per page, 25 pages? Thanks for your time and keep it up! Β

Kaioshen In reply to Blaster788 [2015-10-26 07:26:55 +0000 UTC]

As far as using the techniques, I think it's absolutely possible. It all would really depend on the kind of detail you're going for and how rendered you're going to make the panels. I would personally not recommend it as it could get very tedious and time consuming and when you're dealing with comic book panels, that will burn you out fast. However, if you're just using the textures for a unique style and not going for detail heavy visuals, I don't see why it couldn't work.

Friggin awesome, I know you say the clouds on the planet are from Smattila, but did you render the planet out in 3D or? Really cool piece!

Thanks man! Yeah, the planet itself was rendered out in TG as well.

Love this !
How did you create all the debris / floating rocks please ? 3d stuff ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaioshen In reply to elreviae [2014-08-30 17:12:08 +0000 UTC]

All of the asteroids, as well as the terrain itself, was made using digital matte techniques. So I used a rocky texture and painted over that for every asteroid. It was kind of a pain in the ass to do, but doing it in 3D would have been more time-consuming. If I had decided to do it in 3D though (which I would only have done if I were animating this), I would have used the Debrismaker tool and made them pretty quickly that way. But positioning and scaling them would have eaten up more time.

hmmm ... fair !

3d is nice of course but you're right about time-consuming.

Thank you very much for your reply

Makes me think of a line from "Armageddon" on a scene like this that went along the lines of "We've got front row tickets to the end of the world"

The rocky landscape and asteroids look incredibly real, even too good to be 3D work
