Several studies have come out this past year, one in California, the other in Australia. Those two and others have found that there is nothing unusual about droughts in either area. California in fact suffered a 200-year-long drought which ended just before the 20th Century- they've actually been wetter the past 100 years, than they have been in a long time.

It is hard to say. There were a number of Kelvin Waves in the several El-Nino regions of the Pacific over the past 8 months, but they kept fading out. And now it looks like there will be no El-Nino this year.... from what I have learned over the past year, I am rather thinking you guys are going to see several waves of rain over the next few months- and then it may get quiet again.
