So, at the end of last year, I offered a pet portrait at a charity auction for a Galveston school devastated by Hurricane Ike. The bidding was awesome and went up to $400 at the last few bids! The auction was a huge success and we raised a ton of money for the Galveston school .

So it took a little while for the purchaser to get back to me on what pet she wanted...and it turned out she had two labs |D;. OH WELL I painted them both :3. I'm going to give it next week to the family who bought it...and I really hope they like it XD;.

Also, I might as well request critiques! I kinda went with a different style here--a little less photo-realistic perhaps...or at least not as detailed as some of my past pet portraits/animals. Does it work ? hmm

Hey Kali.. great job. I enjoy your usage of color.

Critique-wise, if anything, I think the composition is a bit cramped. I'm not sure if it's an effect of the fade-to-darkness near the top, or just an illusion I make for myself when I look at the picture.

In one way, it highlights the pups' faces, like that classic cinematography effect where the light is focused on the actor's face and everything else is in shadow.

I keep wanting to say that the image should be taller, or bigger. Give it a quick shot in a graphics editing program, where you just make the image taller (or wider) and fill that space with black. Might have an interesting effect, like the negative space is trying to say something about the subject.

Otherwise, can't say anything about this piece, except for "well done." I also like your choice of strokes.

Cheers,
Zack

Painting must be a hard work, isn't it? Nah, I can't use paints ; < I'm a llama.

I would not buy this picture, but I think it's really pretty. The puppies looks so cute <3 Don't worry, I think the family will like it
