Something was... off. They had made it through the course safe and sound but had landed from several jumps on the wrong lead, highly unusual for a mare with Coda's experience, and as Keke brought the mare down he could feel a little hitch in her stride. Maybe she was sore? It had been more than a year since she'd jumped her last Grand Prix. Eyes on the ground told him she looked completely sound but when you've ridden a horse for 10 years you get to know when something is up and something certainly felt up.

Their round had seemingly gone fine, this was by no means Coda's first rodeo and she had emerged from every other event unscathed, what were the odds that she'd trip up this many years into her career? Luckily they had only planned to compete in one class, Keke was always one to err on the side of caution with his horses and tending to one odd step could be the difference between a long career and an early retirement.

Cold-hosing and ice wraps had always been a part of their jumping cooldown but rarely did they pay this much attention to the legs and hooves. There was no heat, no swelling, no external injuries or punctures, nothing that would make for a strange gait. Had she just clipped a pole harder than usual and needed to walk it off? While Vechnyy habitually rented turn-out for their horses when away at shows the mans gut told him to confine the mare instead, Coda wasn't one to make a fool out of herself in the pasture but she was known to get a little spicy from time to time and it was always better to be safe than sorry.

Unfortunately, no amount of caution could save you from fate and the man had returned from watching the skijoring class to find the mare visibly lame. It was a shock after his earlier exam had turned up nothing, Coda had never been lame a day in her life before this. Sore, sure, but to find your prized competition horse limping around her stall when you're a thousand miles from home? Never.

The in-house vet had also found nothing with a superficial examination; still no heat, swelling, or tender points. Coda was not shod so there was nothing to pull and with a jog out they estimated it to be a hind end lameness which meant she would not have been injured by clipping herself. They were at a loss, hind leg injuries were relatively uncommon in jumpers, due to the repeated stress it was overwhelmingly common to see front leg injuries with even Coda's own great-granddam Steel deMoola had been retired very young due to repetitive stress injuries in her front legs.

This was a new experience for Vechnyy as well, where to go from here? Only once before had they had a horse injured off property when Moole had colicked during a long trailer ride but that had been an emergency and there were no real decisions to make on the owners part. Though visibly lame it was mild and even before bute was given the mare didn't seem to be in pain, though she had always been a good little trooper. While everyone would've preferred to have her handled by their own vets in Aspen it was difficult as well as unethical to ship a lame horse across the country and as such the decision was made to transport her from Pemberly Park directly to an Equine Hospital in nearby Lexington for further diagnostics.
