Description

Flying his Veritech (Variable Engineering and Robotic Integration TECHnology) Stonewell/Bellcom/Shinnakasu VF-1S Valkyrie fighter, U.N. SPACY commander Roy Focker conducts a patrol along the Okinawa coastline.

Some rather surprising animé nostalgy. Chōjikū Yōsai Makurosu or Super Dimension Fortress Macross was originally broadcast on Japan's MBS between October 3rd 1982 and June 26th 1983.  It told the story of the First Space War of 2009 from the point of view of members of the U.N. SPACY, an international agency set up to defend humanity against the Alien invaders.

The centerpiece mecha of the series was the transformable VF-1 Valkyrie fighter, an aircraft which could transform into two separate mecha forms.

Unfortunately only a screenshot...

But the developper did an amazing job - the model is actually capable of transforming in-flight!

He also made a Gundam, but unfortunately that one isn't transformable...

Sure is!  I wouldn't mind picking up a model kit of this one, either.

Nice bit of nostalgia!  It does really take me back to look at it, and as a CGI.

Not just CGI - but a true, flyable, transformable model for Flight Simulator! :3

Good work, a nice screenshot is hard to take. You've chosen a good program and an excellent model to use

Ah, I loved that show Macross so much... and the Movie Macross: Do You Remember Love ... and the non-canon one. Macross 2.. sadly the next one sucked Macross 7... but the next one Macross Plus was good... and the next one Macross Zero was odd (but good)... and the next one Macross Frontier was awesome... here's hoping for more Macross love in the future!

Brings back memories. . .Macross was one of the first Anime OVA's I ever saw broadcast on a US cable channel. . .Before anime officially "broke out" in popularity.

This design was based on the F-14, wasn't it?

It was partly based on the F-14, F-15 and F/A-18, but with a whole lot of additions.  One of the Macross series actually features the F-14, just to compare the performance of the VF-1 to any existing fighter types.

I think the 'boom' your pixies would be making, would be far greater than any 'boom' they could do to the Valkyrie... XD
