Been rewatching Legend of Korra with a friend, so I got super nostalgic...

What-if AU wherein Noatak and Tarrlok run away together. This probably only would have happened had their mother passed away. They board the first ship away from the North and don’t look back.
Tarrlok is terribly unhappy about having to cut off his hair. Noatak says it’s to make them less conspicuous in case their father comes looking for them, but Tarrlok knows it’s Noatak wanting to cast away their past, cut it off completely. He’s not sure that’s how it works but he’s young yet and he still trusts his brother.
They promise each other they will never bloodbend again. But you know what they say about old habits…
