you did it with pencil?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KarinZeller In reply to free-your-soul [2010-11-10 01:18:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes,but not any old ordinary pencils. They are professional quality Prismacolors. They are much brighter and have more pigment than the student grade coloured pencils.

where do you buy them? and how can i do such a nice mandala?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KarinZeller In reply to free-your-soul [2010-11-12 23:40:53 +0000 UTC]

You can buy them either at an art store or online. Be sure to get the artist quality Prismacolor brand, although there are probably other good brandnames about.
This mandala started out with a very large circle on a large piece of paper. The hands are traced from my hands. Then I used white coloured pencil to make it look like I was painting the light. Afterwards I added the colour with Magenta, Canary Yellow, and Aquamarine, blending the colours to create violet, orange and greens. Black was also added in some parts to create more depth. The rest was imagination, and letting the imagination take over.

This is a beautiful Mandala ~ showing the healing hands, the Nature ~ flowers, fishies, birdies, etc. It has a natural flow & energy that moves the eye all around it. The colors are soothing and lovely, as well. I really enjoyed this Creative Spirit that flowed throughout the piece. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you very much for the lovely comment. I really enjoy doing mandalas. Have a go. Just start with a big circle on black paper using white prismacolors or other Artist quality coloured pencils. I started by tracing my hands, and imagination took over from there.

I have that book too. I spent some time in a wheel chair with a broken back and didn't know if I was ever going to walk much again. Someone got me the Mandala book by Judith Cornell and it game me something new to work on to aid with my healing!

Thank you for sharing, Marie.Do you feel it has helped you? I have some students who have serious health issues. I think drawing and colouring mandalas can be like a meditation, and can aid healing. I find them very relaxing and also good to help you get inspired and become more creative.

Thank you for your comment. Actually it's really quite simple. I used a very limited number of prismacolour pencils and drew on black paper. I did a lot of blending. For instance I mixed Aquamarine Blue, and Magenta to get violets, Aquamarine blue and canary yellow for green; magenta and yellow for orange. I also used black and white to get the darker and lighter tones. This technique was inspired by a book by Judith Cornell. Drawing on the light from within. Loved the book.

Thank you, Sue! This took me ages to finish. It evolved over a long period of time. But now that it's finished, I'm quite happy with it. Hope it sells. It's one of those pictures you can look at for a while...seems to have my favourite things in it.
