I wasn't really influence by aboriginal art, but the hands do appear similar to the Aboriginal cave markings. The hands mandala was an exercise from a book...Drawing on the light from within. I also learned the colour pencil blending and style from the book. The images are from my imagination.

Pardon my ignorance, but are prisma colours an ink type pen? And they actually show up on black paper? Sounds interesting. Can you blend the colours to make a new colour or do you have to have the colour pen you want?

Sorry I wasn't being clear enough. Prismacolours are actually a brand of coloured pencils. It's a brand name, because you can also get prismacolour markers. I used Primacolour brand coloured pencils on this work. I blend colours together. You can blend yellow and blue to get green; magenta and blue make a lovely violet; magenta and yellow bleded together make orange. You blend the white with magenta you get pink, etc....Of course I have oranges, violets and greens, but they are not necessary if you are on a limited budget. You can buy just a basic 5 pencils and get all the colours of the rainbow by blending and layering them.

Get ya. The colours are very bright on the black paper. They must be soft if you can blend them so easily. I have some soft Staedlier pencils, maybe they will work the same way.
Thanks for taking the time to explain it to me.

Yes, prismacolours are lovely and brilliant and softer than student grade pencils. I've had them for years. Bought a huge set in Canada from Zellers. They were very cheap at the time.
These days I buy them individually, from the art supply shop. They are relatively soft, very good quality. I think there are also student quality, which are not as good. One thing I've learned, that they work better when sharpened. So I'm always sharpening them while working. My favorites get worn down quickly. I do not put too much pressure on them, but have learned to do gentle layering strokes. If you press too hard too soon, they get all waxy. Mind you it is good to practice doing scales...start with more pressure then ease off as you move the pencil accross the page. (shading). Hard to explain, wish I could demonstrate. Books do a better job.
