Description i think its finished. that's the thing about a painting... you never know when its finished. if you do find something that you'd feel needs to be done better, then please please tell me, cuz i'm just learning this. i have never done any thing this big in charcoal. i really enjoyed using it.

how did u manage to control it so well!!? i find charcoal so frustrating
i did try a couple of times, but kept cleaning my hands after every 5 minutes as they`d smudge my entire piece. But this is again very well handled!bravo!

oh no no no no no... first rule of using charcoal... get your hands dirty!!
actually noor gave me a book and there was this technique in it that an artist had adopted. he had actually made an interior of a room and was studying values. you need to use a very soft english willow charcoal. that one works wonders. i just blocked in black where solid stuff is supposed to be. then scrapped off the charcoal with brush, fingers, nails, tissue, putty, cloth what ever i could get my hands on. slowly the picture started taking shape. the trick is in going backwards. not forward with charcoal. i hope all my jabbering clears up ur problem! oh, and i used the darker charcoal in the finishing.

i tried one figure some time back , couldnt bring out the darker tones. ì`ll upload it and u can tell me how to make it look better? oh and i MUST get tht book!!!

kasblue In reply to silvershoes [2010-02-23 13:09:23 +0000 UTC]

well, for darker tones you can try another type of charcoal. i'll check at home. i have some german pencil thingy type charcoal u know... thats the type usually available. and that's really dark.
actually, i'v asked for that book again too, so i'll tell you the title and the publisher. i'v got to get it too!

its so awsome! how do u draw leaves! xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kasblue In reply to DoodleBunnah [2010-01-09 00:18:10 +0000 UTC]

ah... now there are two things there. the leaves on that tree and the grass. i dabbed the charcoal on the paper, making dots to draw trees on the tree. the grass was a bit more complicated. there are places where i have drawn grass with the charcoal, and there are places where i have rubbed the charcoal off to draw grass.

kasblue In reply to DoodleBunnah [2010-01-09 00:23:25 +0000 UTC]

oh. well, there are tricks to draw leaves. u dont really have to draw each leaf, but either draw dots or some wild pencil movements to give an idea. remind me and i'll tell u in one or two days.

I think it's excellent! Keep working with charcoal, you will improve in no time with your talent! SOmetimes I feel that way with my art but I learned it's best not to be obsessive about details and if I like it, then I make myself stop right then and there. And I found that works for me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kasblue In reply to bluuenikki [2009-11-08 21:17:56 +0000 UTC]

haha, yep, i know what you mean. but i think the real good thing is to work in such a way that it would look like there's loads of detail in something but when you look closely theres really nothing there!! that's why i love impressionism.
