Description This is sort of a map of the chapters and pages I point out in a journal entry ([link] ) where I point out why the Marines should know Usopp's face and name, so why don't they have it on his bounty poster? Instead it features the masked face and name of Sogeking.

Please do not post arguments of "Attach wasn'tt here to take his picture" or "Attach couldn't get his face in Water 7 like he did for Nami because Usopp didn't take off his mask". I dispute those arguments in my journal entry. Please read it before trying to excuse away the Marines. It's not an accident they didnt' show Usopp's face, they judt didn't want to.

But why?

*read the journal* ...Yep, there's some pretty irrefutable evidence that Usopp's identity isn't so secret anymore. Perhaps Oda will expand on this later (if/when it becomes an issue)...

yeah, after the tiemskip that newspaper showed a side profile of Usopp's face...but we can't see a name and the writing is a bit longer over Usopp's than it is over the others, so makes me wonder if it read "Sogeking"

....still though wonder why the Marines didn't show Usopp's face/name on the bounty after Ennies Lobby. Make us wonder if there is reason....

Maybe they just like the name "Sogeking." (Highly unlikely, but I agree that the Marines are acting weird about all this.)

Probably because they didn't take a picture or marines are dumb

I'm guessing it's the same as how nobody remembers that Whitebeard's real name is Edward Newgate--it doesn't sound as cool. I'm guessing that "Sogeking" is just forever going to be Usopp's pirate name instead of his actual name.
Another reason might be that the mask looks cooler than Usopp's actual face? Maybe they thought that people would take him more seriously with the mask?
Just some theories to throw out there.

Ah yes, they were slow to get the facial pitcure, they should have had it 2 years ago. But we don't know what name they used or if they figured out that that he is Sogeking.

Note- just went to look at newspaper on cover of 613, I did a crop, and sharpen image a few times. its still not very clear but the scribling ...err writing... is longer over USopp's pic than others, so its possible that it reads 'Sogeking' ... and it looks like the top half of his face is hidden by the hat

Since its a side profile, it shows his nose. hehe nice touch as it was his nose that allowed Kaya and the boys back home to identify Sogeking as Usopp, even if the villagers were too dumb to not figure it out themselves.

Because...Sogeking sounds better? xD (jk)
Well, I think he won't use that mask anymore (maybe he'll use it again if he's in a tight spot later in the New World for some inspiration) so I think his new wanted poster will have Usopp written on it. But who knows...

I am hoping that his bounty poster will have his face but title of Sogeking on it... lol I LIKE the idea people call him that like how people seem to forget that Edward Newgate is the name for Whitebeard

That would be cool, but it would ruin the surprise for Luffy and Chopper lol

That it would!

Chopper: Lu-lu-LUFFY! Look at the newspaper!
Luffy: Hmm oh Cool! They got pictures of everyone! They even got a picture of Usopp.
Chopper: Luffy...look at what they call him! It's So..go..So
Luffy:SOGEKING! Usopp! *runs straignt at Usopp* Yo...you...

Luffy/Chopper together: *points both index fingers with stars in eyes* You're Sogeking! COOL!

(it doesn't even dawn on them to ask why they didn't know)

Usopp: Of course. Who else would be the 'King of Snipers'?
Nami: Sounds dumb
Usopp: NO ONE ASKED YOU!! xDD
*Sanji kicks Usopp*
Sanji: Don't disrespect the lady~
Franky: That's very manly Usopp!
Brook: I wish I could put a mask on my face...but I don't have a face. SKULL JOKE!!
Zoro: SHUT UP! I'm trying to sleep!

I guess that's because he introduced himself as "Sogeking, King of Snipers". The Marines might have seen him without his mask many times (before the Enies Lobby incident, too), but I guess they just never got hold of his name. If they ever came across the name "Usopp" before, they might not have taken him serious and didn't care... But the happenings on Enies Lobby were something different. I assume that's the reason.
Nice thought, though, I never wondered why they didn't use "Usopp".

No, he indroduced himseld as Sogeking to the Strawhats on the Rocketman, not to the marines, maybe to the CP9 but the marines never got a chance to talk to them, as soon as they reappered, the Marines tried to arrest them. Not even Spandam had a name for Usopp/Sogeking.
The only time Marines themselves saw Usopp was during the Buster Call. No one called him Sogeking during the fight on the bridge that I recall.

Usopp was called Sogeking by the crew at Water 7. But never did he call himself "King of Snipers", that never appeared until the bounty poster, as a epithet the marines gave him.

Even Aokiji has seen Usopp's face and heard his name before the Buster Call, when he ...talked... to the Strawhats on Longring Longland about Robin.

Ah, my memory is so bad... I guess I should re-read the Enies Lobby chapters again xD I thought I remembered him singing his stupid theme song and introducing himself as Sogeking all the time, but it seems like I was wrong...
But I guess nobody's perfect... Oda makes mistakes, too (if that's the reason, then good job for finding this mistake! xD)

Katzztar In reply to GiddyGalley [2012-06-17 22:46:06 +0000 UTC]

No, youa re right that he did sing the song, but he was on top of the Justice tower and the only ones shown to hear him was Sanji and Zoro. And he did introduce himself as Sogeking ... to other Strawhats and (I think) to the CP9, thinking of Jabra there lol

There were Marines on the Bridge of Hesiation, they were bart of the escort that arrived to take Robin to Impel Down, but they were too far to hear him and needed binoculars just so see him.

You're right anyone can make mistakes and I'm willing to admit if I made a mistake if you do reread it and find Usopp talking directly to Marine or near to Marine that can overhear him.
i just feel strongly that the Marines called him Sogeking because the Strawhats did afterwards on Water 7

Why DIDN'T they use Usopp's name...? I understand that he was disguised as Sogeking, but... Never mind.

It is a confusing thing, as shown while he wore the mask, there plenty of times his face wasn't covered. I don't why they didn't do a composite drawing by taking in the description of the marines there, and having an artist drawing him...maybe they already did Sanji and thought that was a failure so didn't try again?

Beyond that, is pure speculation and wild guesses.
