These birds are so cute! I'm always wondering how fast their wings are - not clearly visible @shutter 1/320 sec ...

You did a wonderful job, Ruth!

I have always loved them - I have a memory from about kindergarten (close to a half century ago!) of the Hummingbird House at the San Diego Zoo - I had long hair and a hummer was right there in my face trying to get some strands for its nest ... They make quite a breeze!! And you're right - wingbeats per second - wow! Check out here [link]

Thanks for the compliment

Thank you so much! I hope your child gets better and don't you get tomorrow off? Here in California Veteran's Day is a school holiday...

My daughter is heart broken her first love is over...we have Tuesday...I can catch up on Homework...and grades...or just go shoot.

No matter the age, that is hard on her and you! (How old is she? My almost 19 year old daughter has shied away from matters of the heart...I'm not sure if that will make it harder or easier when she finally does fall...)

KarenFiore In reply to kayaksailor [2008-11-11 22:48:58 +0000 UTC]

She is 19. As of today she claims she is fine. But that is what she always tells me. I hope it is so. If love goes well it is wonderful but once it starts to fray then unravel well it hurts. And we question who we are and what we have done wrong. Or are we unlovable...

kayaksailor In reply to KarenFiore [2008-11-12 00:46:21 +0000 UTC]

And today she may be fine; tomorrow or a few days from now it may be different, and then ok again...but as you know hearts are resiliant 'tho they sure hurt at the time.

(We have something else in common beyond our birthdates two day apart: daughters very close in age (my Cait will be 19 on Saturday - she feels that 19 sounds sooo old )

I feel that 19 is to old too for them, I want mine back to under 10 for a few more years. But alas, she is a woman now. I knew when she was born that it would come to this. I sit here and wish she was that baby in my arms...tears..

I, too, knew that she would someday be gone so when ever I was tempted to say or think "Grow up" I would consciously stop and savor the moment... we just had Cait's bday breakfast - she's got lots of school work so no playing but we did go shopping yesterday and we'll probably go out to dinner at her favorite Chinese restaurant for dinner

Same here Ruth. I always stopped myself from saying "grow up" I knew I did not mean it. I hope that your daughter had a wonderful birthday. Excluding all the school work. But bless her for getting it done.

the feeder is up in the tree outside my almost second story dining room window off our deck...the light in and through the tree is challenging but when it works

Such a very Zen place

Such a very Zen moment

I wish I was there

I have had a nearly life long fight with depression and Joanne’s trip to the hospital has been very rough on me.

You often make things better

Our birds are going crazy at the feeders today; blue jays, cardinals, nuthatches, and chickadees. I wish it wasn't so wet out, I'd get some nice shots.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kayaksailor In reply to Kelly63 [2008-11-08 20:08:56 +0000 UTC]

they probably know the snow is coming and they're trying to stock up on food in their bellies It is a pain about the dampness - the overcast here is making one of the male hummers red head and throat just GLOW but it's too dark for shooting him at the tree feeder and he won't come close to me out in the more open area
