Description Set out to take some photos of the local Christmas lights...and then saw the moon!  Not really sure what to categorize this as...

Very nice use of minimal light. Although most of the scene is pitch black, the strength of the high-contrast high-saturation light formations of the rooftops work extremely well to give the distinct form of houses. The moon further extends on this gives the impression that the neighborhood is alive, waiting for Christmas in the black of the night. It's very joyful and immediately attractive despite the darkness. Awesome shot!

As usual I can nitpic the shot to death - to the point I was thinking about going back tonight and "doing it right"...this was a "grab it while it was happening" shot (that presented itself when I'd stopped with my daughter to shoot some low laying fog 90 degrees to the right) in retrospect I'd try to get closer and use my good wide angle rather than the fully zoomed 300mm but I love it anyway and we've got rain now

I was so excited when I saw this scene!  But it is amazing the difference just five minutes can make...stopped to capture some trees in fog (looking 90 degrees right from here) saw the moon, zoomed in to 300 with no real way of focusing and hoped!  And then, bam.  The moon was gone and the fog had moved!  Was thinking of going back tonight early to prepare (get closer and use my oo-ah wide angle) but we've got rain

It is gorgeous. 
Do they have a category for sky? That would fit.
Any way you categorize it, it is beautiful.

Thank you so much!  I was thinking sky but I'm not sure which is the "main" focus - the roof/lights or the moon

Well, for me, it was the moon. I noticed it before I ever saw the lights on the house.
But then I am a freak over the moon.
Hence my name...moonfairy.
