Description Exclusive Semi-Sweeties Tutorial
#2: How to make Ham

Hello fellow sweets!
I was not supposed to send this tutorial so soon, but *Talty seemed in a hurry for me to send it, lol. Since it is almost Easter, this tutorial might reveal itself useful.

This is my second exclusive tutorial based on your suggestions. This one was suggested by

I hope you will enjoy yourselves; feel free to comment. If you want to send me suggestions for more tutorials, I will be happy to take them into consideration.

For this project, you will need:

-White clay
-Translucent clay
-Dusty rose clay (or any pink clay you have, except for fluo)
-Gray clay
-Brown chalk pastel (if you have more than one brown, it would be cool, if not it’s fine)
-An old paintbrush (to apply the chalk pastel)
-a rolling pin (or what you usually use on your clay)
-a razor blade (or any other blade you usually feel comfortable working with)
-string, thread, rope, whatever. I forgot to mention the string on the picture, sorry...

I will use Sculpey for this project.

Step 1)
First of all, you need to mix the colors you will need for your ham project.

a) Mix a part of white with a part of translucent clay. Once that is done, put it aside.
b) Mix a part of white, 1/3 of pink and 1/3 of gray.

Note: I added a bit of red chalk pastel because I thought it was not pink enough and it was easier to gauge with the chalk rather than more pink clay

Take all the time you need so you have a nice ham color.

Step 2)
Take half of the White/Translucent mix and mix it with the “ham” mix.
AttentionYou don’t want it to blend completely!

Step 3)
Okay I don’t know why but I don’t have the picture I took of the roll I made… It got lost somewhere.

Anyway, make a roll of the mix and cut it into 3 or 4 even tubes. Then put them aside.

Step 4)
Take the leftovers of the White/Translucent mix you made earlier and roll it but not too thin. Then, put piece of that clay around the tubes you made on step three.

AttentionYou don’t want to put it all around the tubes, just partly around. Add more if you want you ham to look like it has more fat. Because that white/translucent clay really is for that purpose.

Use the picture to inspire you if you need.

Step 5)
Press the rolls together lightly and then shape the one roll it makes into the shape of a ham.

Step 6)
Use a piece of string, rope or thread and gently put it around the “ham”. Be careful not to cut the clay by pulling on the thread too roughly, you worked too hard! Just make sure that it is pressed firmly enough to leave a trace into the “ham”.

Step 7)
It needs to look like that!

Step 8)
Scrape some dusty brown chalk pastel with a razor blade (or other) and gently dab some of the powder on your “ham” with an old paintbrush.

If you want to add more depth to the color, dab a bit of darker brown chalk pastel powder onto the “ham” but it’s alright if you don’t have dark brown, it will look good anyway.

Step 9)
You need to be very careful here, as you will have to remove the thread from around the ham. You can, of course, leave it if you prefer, but I personally like the look it has when it is removed.

Step 10)
Cut your ham with a sharp blade. If your blade is not sharp enough it might squish your ham. If you do not have a sharp blade, put the “ham” in the freezer for 5 minutes, then cut it. This way you’ll have nice slices.

Step 11)
With a needle or the tip of your blade (I personally prefer a needle), work the details of your ham. Detail the bigger fat lines and do a # pattern on the pink part of the meat.

Step 12)
Baking time! Make sure you follow the directions of the clay you are using. For example, Sculpey clay cures at 275F for 15 minutes.

Step 13)
