Description 5 x 5 inches watercolor
I picked this species of crane for that splash of red, and it makes the bird pop off the landscape.

A stork that is looking for fish!

You've done a fantastic job of making the background beautiful and interesting while not overpowering the crane. I love it!

hey...Thank you for your reply to my comment on Anyone Can Watercolor! by *watercolorists.
I will certainly look into the references you mentioned. So far, w/c is only something I am playing with on occasion but I will get to it eventually. With all the books I looked at this week on the subject it's nice to have some recomendations.

I love the backround. Somehow I can never pull off the abstract yet evocative thing but you certainly have.

KelliRoos In reply to Picksy [2007-10-05 04:45:12 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. I have trouble with it from time to time. I practice every so often, it's just a matter of getting the brushstroke to look right, which only happens about 1/2 the time.

The water effect came off wonderfully here. At the moment I am /trying/ to learn how to use watercolours and I am learning a few tips from your work so thank you

Thank you for the kind words. This piece I feel is my strongest lately in watercolor technique.

Oh! I am honored that I am helping you discover and learn about watercolors. Is there anything that you are finding difficult to find or know? I am making a beginner watercolor news article right now. I can try to find it for you.

At the moment i'm just practicing different effects and trying not to let my colours run! Also it's hard to remember to leave your page white for highlights etc. I am trying to do a little bit everday so I can get better but I look forward to your news article, i'm sure it will be helpful

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KelliRoos In reply to RaquelCree [2007-10-06 06:17:35 +0000 UTC]

Oh I still struggle with that! I wonder if I'll ever get that right sometimes. Though I've seen many artists be successful that do not leave the white of the page, they paint the white back in later. Here's a short tutorial on the different ways to leave white. Maybe one of these will work perfectly for you. --> [link]

I found the tutorial really helpful! I'm glad there are other ways to do the white, the painting it with gouache at the end is so much easier for me, thanks for saving me a lot of time and effort with my painting hehe

your color is wonderful - the triangle of beak and legs makes for a strong design element and your skill with your paint is fantastic just wonderful

Oh thank you! I felt the composition was strong on this one, and I was able to use colors in the background to define the forms well, but your description helped solidify it for me.

Cmac13 In reply to KelliRoos [2007-10-02 13:57:38 +0000 UTC]

thanks - i always try for at least one color triangle in all my work makes for a strong design element to hold the composition together when you did it in RED - against those incredibly beautiful *snow* colors - it worked perfectly very nice indeed

This is the first time I have heard of the color triangle configuration, I see it now. I'll try to use it when I can.
