Description I started to look through some older stuff I have while I was cleaning off some of my computers, and I found this painting. This is the second watercolor I ever did. It is not finished, nor will I go back to finish it. This was just a study I did from one of Michelangelo's paintings. You can see how in some areas I just started to block in flat colors, in others I was building more defined forms. Finally there are even areas that I used little cross hatching strokes to emphasize the form. (A technique I never really use now)

Anyways I just thought it would be fun to see where I started in a way. I still get a lot out of looking at my older work.

As always watercolor, on Arches 140lb paper.

i like this a lot. i was really interested in seeing someone try painting in an older style like this. im a beginner in watercolors, and want to learn to paint realistically. i actually considered switching to oils because it seems like a lot more oil painters paint that way and they always seem like they have more pop to them for lack of a better word. its so hard to get watercolors to look rendered and not look overworked. i like hard edges too but they seem really amateur to me and i don't always want stuff to look like that. i guess im still pretty inexperienced though.

Having just returned from a trip to Rome, I'm loving anything to do with Michelangelo and art history in general. This is very good for the second watercolour you've ever done. Wow. I love the colours in the face, very well done

WOW amazing!!!
I know that figure very well, it's a Michaelangelo's Ignudos from the Sistine Chapel to Rome (truly in Vatican)
The detail shows the head of the Ignudo at the upper left corner of the Drunkenness of Noah (above the prophet Joel).

I love the michelangelo 's art and also I have inspired to he when I have chosen my nickname and atavar

very good job, i love it!

I am glad you liked this little painting. I have to say it was much easier for me to work on paper, then it must have been for Michaelangelo to work on a ceiling. I saw his work in person years ago, but it has always remained with me to this day.

well, it's my pleasure to your reply but it's shameful that I have not never seen the fresco, in consideration that i live in Italy!!!!! This notwithstanding, the printed images of the books also have conveyed their eternity beauty to me.

These are just words and only Michelangelo could find words worthy of being pronounced regarding his work!
The project was physically and emotionally torturous for Michelangelo.
As a result of having painted for so long a time, if he had to read a letter or some other small thing, he was obliged to hold it above his head.

At the same time, these paints of the past are so fascinating that it is a pleasure to copy them, and then you can learn many secrets of this work.
You can further your understanding by looking and copying at Old Master drawings.
After, the reproductions that you realize is undertaken to convey one's own personality, to create unique works, with personal materials and touch.

I would not wait any long... go see this wonderful fresco as soon as possible! I could never do what he did, but that does not mean I can't enjoy looking at it over and over and over!

I would kind of embrace the areas that you say "blocked in with flat color," because to me they give something special to the painting-- it's not like looking at a photograph, it's like looking at a piece of art. I absolutely love it.

Isn't it fun to study from Michelangelo? Make sure you get a chance to see the Sistine Chapel ceiling during your lifetime. It is truly amazing.

I have already been to the Chapel, and it was amazing. Right now I want to go to Venice. I just want to sit and paint for a few days on end. Plus shot about 10 gigs of digital photos to take back with me.

I was only in Rome for two days. I did a 3-week study abroad trip (Renaissance Art History) in Florence and took the train to Rome for the weekend. I was so set on seeing the Sistine Chapel that after waiting in line for so many hours I practically ran through the Vatican museums to get there, thinking I could retrace my steps. NOT SO! After your neck is so sore that you finally leave the chapel, you're spit out of the museum altogether. So I definitely have to go back someday.

The list of places I want to go, and the places I want to go back to, severally outweigh the places I never want to see again. However I fell fortunate to have been able to go to as many places as I have, both good and bad.
