Description Just two simple portrait renders of my new character/model "Miriam". More to come soon...

Miriam is based on skin textures for Ariana/Victoria 4, with several custom face/body morphs and tweaked hair textures. Since I do "baby steps" all the time while learning, the deviation from the original is rather concise.

What do you think?

DAZ Studio 3 + Reality 1.25 + Lux Render 0.8 + PS CS5 + about 4 hours composing & ~30 hours rendering altogether.

My jaw hit the floor after looking at this render. Very beautiful & realistic character! I Love her smile. Where can I get this "Miriam"

Thank you very much!

Well, at least the texture pack used in this render (Ariana for V4) can be purchased on daz3d.com, the DAZ Studio site, though it's been slightly modified. The morphs/adjustments to V4 for Miriam never left my hard drive.

I can't really remember the last time I've ever seen a natural looking smile in 3d renders...this would be one of them...expression wise I mean...

This is fantastic. If you ever wanted to render this in Blender Cycles with the SSS shader and maybe some cycles hair, and some materials for the eyes and teeth, I think you'd have a phenomenal portrait.

what light you used in reality

Should be a simple setup with just two Softboxes, iirc, one on the left side behind the camera and one of the right side (you can see the right one as a reflection in her eyes); but I have to look up the original scene file to be sure. On full body test renders with her I also used a four-Softbox-setup, with one upper and one lower light on each side.

I need to get myself a copy of Reality. I just see the neatest things done with it. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you!

I never regret buying that plug-in; first and foremost I got rid of the "plastic" look of Daz's 3Delight renders early because of that. (yeah, I know that you can achieve similar results with 3Delight, but I just bought the plug-in, discovered that realistic look it delivered and afterwards figured out how to do similar things in 3Delight ).

very good job and great expression, especially the one smiling on the right. boy, ~30 hr rendering time, i don't know how people could stay sane with rendering times like that, especially to go that far and find out there was some flaws in the render lol. but really, it looks great and the skin looks exceptionally good as well.

Kelthoras In reply to render8 [2011-06-03 17:01:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot!

The rendering time of 30 hours is for both images, leaving "only" fifteen hours each. And it's no problem: if I think a scene is ready for rendering, I start the renderer and let the computer run during night or working day. And if I have a more complex image and detect a flaw in it after a day or so of rendering, I have two options (depending on the "size" of the flaw(s)): either correct it and start the rendering again or use Photoshop to eliminate tiny flaws. As a hobbyist I am in a comfortable situation: I don't have to follow deadlines. If an image is ready after an afternoon of tinkering, well...but if it takes a whole week of repeated rendering - it also doesn't matter.

Kelthoras In reply to MrSynnerster [2011-06-02 20:56:15 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! I tried to raise the realism by fumbling with all the morph dials and add a healthy portion of irregularity to it, but I think most of the job is still done by the Ariana/Victoria 4-skin texture/bump and spec map package.

MrSynnerster In reply to Kelthoras [2011-06-03 13:23:58 +0000 UTC]

well the fumbling and the skin texture both worked out well. b/c you did a great job.
