More that heβs depicting the armor as having a layer of skin that makes the armor less visible, and seems almost contiguously smooth between the armored and unarmored parts of the body.

It makes sense. If the armor was completely exposed, as is usually depicted, itβs lumps could have made a lot of drag. Having at least a thin layer of smooth skin on top of it would have helped.
