Description While everyone keeps on saying that the 90's had better cartoons, however the bad cartoons from the 90's that I caught were spin-off series of popular movies.

That includes:
Dumb & Dumber
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Free Willy
Beethoven (the Saint Bernard, not the pianist)
The Problem Child
The Karate Kid
Godzilla
The Wizard of Oz
the Neverending Story

I'm not saying that all of them are bad, I did enjoy the animated series of "Casper" and "The Mask".

But most of them all have the same flaws that drains out the quirk that made the fans like the movie, and were only made to get quick easy bucks.

"Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius" was pretty cool. The TV show? Not so much.

Attack of the Killer Tamatos, Beetlejuice, Teen Wolf and Back to the Future had their own cartoon spin offs too.
Heck even Tales from the Crypt and Toxic Avenger had cartoon spin offs as well.

I've said about the 90s that when all the good cartoons are really good, it just makes the bad cartoons seem all the worse.

Godzilla: The Series had a limited appeal, which was strictly to fans of both the Emmerich film and those that love the original Godzilla but hate the Emmerich version. GTS was actually one of the better adaptations, like Real Ghostbusters, and both are probably the only ones to surpass the films they're based on. That's just me though. However, Karate Kid, Free Willy, Ace Ventura? Absolutely unnecessary and just ugh. -_-

Timon and Pumbaa's Adventures bored me a bit, and I do agree many other series based on movies aren't that great. The Jungle Cubs? Liked that one.

I would totally melt for an Ice Age or Bolt T.V. series though

All Dogs go to Heaven had one two. from what I've re-watched, the new villainess, Belladonna is pretty much the only thing that makes it above average.

I can't stand spin-off shows. They're hardly ever any good. Case in point: "The Penguins of Madagascar"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KessieLou In reply to TheyCallMePherf [2011-07-06 23:26:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, especially that they gotten every character wrong except for Maurice and Skipper.

Mort isn't suppose to have a foot-fetitish over Juilen's feet, and being a pain in the butt

Julian isn't suppose to be a vain royal pain and being very picky

And it's just like "Back at the Barnyard," especially having a crazy red-head woman that believes the animals can talk (Mrs. Beady = Alice).

Also, did you notice how "Penguins" just doesn't seem to fit anywhere in the movie franchise? It can't take place before the first movie, because the lemurs were still in Madagascar at the time. It can't take place between the first and second movies because the penguins and the lemurs were in Madagascar at the time. And it can't take place after the second one because the penguins go celebrate Skipper's honeymoon in Monte Carlo and the lemurs stay in Africa. I also hear that there's going to be a third "Madagascar" movie in which Alex and the gang try again to get vack to New York, but end up in some European circus. And I agree. I think they were completely ripping off "Back at the Barnyard" with the character Alice. Another spin-off series that I doubt will last long is the "Jimmy Neutron" spin-off series called "Planet Sheen". So far, I think it's only had about three or four episodes since it's release in October of 2010.

not to mention the Disney movie spin-off cartoons
that were prevalent around this time:
Aladdin
The little mermaid
Hercules
Talespin
Junglecubs
Alice in wonderland
Belle's magical world
101 Dalmations etc.

There were weird cases in with movies like First Blood, Robocop and Police Academy, despite being R-Rated movies, would get their own animated series.
