The tallness of the dimension makes it kind of skinny to me, maybemaybe

Well, I should prefer to say slender.

My, so this has to do about the thing of love? The painting it's attached to it's-- it's really dark. ` w`)

I'm sure you are aware, but you've good good confidence and control with your medium. The realism in the character really does push a limit between photography and drawing. It's so well draft..ed... mmm
You've gotta produce life sketches like a waterfall produces a cascade.

Do you mind if I ask how you normally practice? What's your approach. I am a figure drawer as well, somewhat.. oy n_n

oh! photo. skish.

I'm completely sure the effect you have produced and tempered this with has increased quite beyond the original photothing, anyhow. There is your skill's exposure. ::__::\\o

Thank you for all of that...very inciteful thoughts. Especially on this one.

The compositions are almost always entirely impulsive and intuitive. Something I've learned to trust. It very much had to do with love at the time. There are two versions of this...she has the other one. Wherever she may be. As Leonard Cohen wrote "She broke your throne and she cut your hair."

This was one of the very early oilgraphs (Photo and oil) when I was just discovering and exploring the technique. Up until this point I was strictly a photographer and then decided that I needed to take it a step further...so I turned to oil paint. Actually my drawing skills are relatively nascent.

Oddly it is only now that they are returning as I become more of a painter. I'm going back to all of the basics but from a different vantage point. You're catching me at a bit of an exciting turning point. So it's really inspiring to me that this comment comes on an image that was made at almost the beginning of the journey...

Very deeply appreciated...

I like this very much. Is it a photo collage or have you done the face in oil?

Thanks so much....It's just a straight photo with oil paint

The sort of strained pose and expression reminds me of Mucha or some other artist from about that time.. I like this portrait better than your nudes, the nudes tend to blend together while this one really stands out.. The black clothes makes the viewer really focus on the face...

'Loving you was like running out of cigarettes'
man. i love that!
AND this piece!
so haunting!
this being an early piece, you can see the evolving taking place.
though i must tell you,...i love that linework. i don't seem to remember alot
of that in many of your more recent pieces.
coming to your gallery really pumps me man!
very nice!

Thank you....yeah, the line work (or where the brush work is really apparent) was something that for the most part appears in the early work only. I started to make it blend more over the years, but hearing comments like this make me want to revisit that direction....perhaps they will make a return sometime....

Yeah, the cigarette line....it came to me in the darkroom one night when i was working on a piece.
It's all true....though more appropriately applied to someone else....
Not that this one was any small kick to the gut....

+your work has the ability to blow me away too damn often. this is excellent. i love it when a piece achieves a certain level of abstraction... a thin edge to walk there. this is very expressive, it flows beautifully, it carries a silence with it, a white noise, an expectation. the zig-zagging line on her left is perfect, and so is the light. how you do this is still a mystery to me (i know the what but not the how), which adds to the enchantment. i tip my hat to you, sir.+

Thanks so much my friend.....it's really funny looking back on 'old' work. I remember when I made it. I made two versions and the other one went to her. I seem to rember liking that one more. That one however, I suspect we'll never see again.

its fantastic how she looks like a match head. her body being the center of the flame, the oil color surrounding her the flame. and of course, blend that interpretation of the image with those words, and a lil story seems to unfold.

its a fleeting moment. she is either gonna burn out before she can serve her purpose, or she's gonna burn your fingers and cause her fall. either way, with no "cigarette" to light, this moment isn't going to last for very long at all. atleast if there were a "cigarette" around, it would be a slow burn to the end... instead of a flash in the pan sort of scenario.

another wonderful piece.
