PDO has no flaps, so i dont know how did you glue/joint it?,
you add pieces of paper inside?, or use tape?
I'm thinking in scale up the hand, how big is once full mount?

KevKoe In reply to RaiderDK [2015-01-09 08:11:48 +0000 UTC]
Yes, it uses paper inside the model, between seams. I usually use that way of gluing to make the model looks more neat and didn't show much seam when i paint it. You can scale it up to any size, but usually i use the default scale, which is around 32cm (stretched finger to base).

Thanks for answering so fast
I supossde you joint it that way, it makes joints at same level, (using flaps one always go avobe the other).
I'll try the default size first, if parts are too small I'll scale up.

I wonder could this hold any weight, like for holding something without breaking?

Paper version? Unlikely.

Truly an amazing design! And the model looks exquisitely well built. How did the exhibition go?
I downloaded the PDO, will take a shot at it when I get some time, it deserves the dedication required to get it built right!
Two questions:
-Would you say that the piece distribution in papekura could be used to print in different shades/colors of paper to get a good color design without airbrushing afterwards?
-What type (weight) of paper did you use or would you recommend for this model?
Thanks, and congratulations again!

firstly on screen, then i printed it on paper, then make it into it's originally intended shape. The 3D software i use to design this is Google Sketchup, then use pepakura to unfold it..

I have checked on you for so long, I thought this was 3D thou. That's not easy to be made out of paper, did you use wire on the joints? Congrats on DD man.

that's what made it difficult, paper is the hardest material for joint.

KevKoe In reply to 4-X-S [2012-05-03 04:31:14 +0000 UTC]
agreed, experimented on hundreds of them, used couple of materials, still... i haven't found a solution to create an ultimate durable and firmly adjustable joints...

Usually joints made from paper was just a simple fold that provide a flexible hinge, like the box tops. It is hard to make a discreet joint, may be you can try woods or harder paper, also waxing may be useful. I understand you cannot directly construct volume like other materials, you have to close the surface.

Yes, i will experiment on more joint types and more material as soon as i have more time, it is difficult to replicate the actual joint, well, thicker paper might do the trick plus some high friction material...

Nice work! Is this just made of paper? It doesn't look anywhere near one because its clean.

KevKoe In reply to TheDawnOfMidnight [2012-04-23 09:48:44 +0000 UTC]
It is made of paper entirely, and i can guarantee you that, it looks clean cause i painted it with airbrush, with poster color as it's paint that gives it a smooth almost resin/pvc like appearance.
