Description I did a paper cut out project. Got this amazing frame that has an opening door and I just knew I had to make elephants for it. It's difficult and I learned a lot. Fun, though.

This will be laying out on my table during FC if you’d like to get a closer look at it All traditional medium stuff is obviously much better IRL.

How much would you sell this for? And how big is it?

This was 6x8" and I actually just sold it for about $250.
All of my originals are priced higher than prints due to the amount of time it takes to produce them.  Prints normally run around $10.

This came out so awesome. I would have gone nuts trying to cut all those pieces out, personally.

I love the paper art. The use of colors and the way you utilized your space is fantastic. I don't think it would be complete without that fabulous frame. That just makes it.

I've always wanted to try some cut out stuff like that. Maybe this means I'll just have to try it out now.

How does it work? I don't see any doors or even hinges on the photo with elephant. Where are those doors? Behind? How do you present it then?

The picture is quite amazing, I love the detail, but I also get a bit lost in it. It took me some time to see there elephant and at the beginning I thought it's half human (I must have taken the front legs as the only legs and tusks as hands, hehe). Also the dark blue in the background suggests night time for me, but trees and elephant are lit very bright, seems like photo taken with flash. Nevertheless I enjoy shapes and the elephant is super sweet and charming ^^

Oops, forgot to explain the door. The frame stands up and the door can then be opened up and there's a sort of secondary inner frame which is where I took the close up of the artwork. It's 5x7 so not very large. If the doors are left open, the piece can hang without them getting in the way, too, and they don't swing wildly, which is good.

Ahh, I see! Sounds nice, actually I'm quite curious how does the picture with whole frame and opened doors look like

Thanks for the feedback! This was my first real experimentation with this and I have a lot left to learn :3 I figured in the jungle, it would be darker, but I didn't think whether the blue would make it appear nighttime! I'll also have to spend more time experimenting with how to achieve the correct colors with the paper. There was a lot of guesswork, and I had some limitations on available paper! I think if I do another one, I'll go much simpler and then work on exaggerating from thaere.

I understand

I've looked up jungle on Google and it seems that most of the time it's even brighter the further it goes! At least in a sunny day, example: [link]

I bet working with paper does limit a lot! I can't say much, haven't tried that myself, but I believe next time for you it will be way easier then the first time Good luck, would love to see more of such work!

Oh, I just had a thought, I think I know why I had a problem with understanding the elephant. I remembered from online tutorials that not everything in the picture should have same amount of details. The eye doesn't know where to concentrate and jumps around whole picture like crazy. I think that's what happened to me here, the background is shouting shouting over the elephant.

Yeah, I agree. Normally when I paint, I can dilute background elements, which is way harder when you're cutting them out, therefore potentially giving yourself much louder background elements without even trying!

Haha, yeah, can't blur paper too much XD After all it was a first try on this technique
