Description A polar bear circus girl, inked entirely in gel pen to give her a softer look. I really like this look, but it's tricky for me to do well, because of the planning required in the inking. Her head is a little big, I think, but it’s still a cute picture. Now that I have more time, I'll have to grab my set from home and do more gel pen work.

I used gel pens for the inked outlines, Prismacolor colored pencils for the color, white gel pen for the texture and highlights, and some Pigma Micron 005 for the darkest tones. The paper is beige memory book paper. I scan the drawings into my computer, so that makes the colors a little smoother than they really are.

well, you're right, something is wrong with the head and I don't know it's the size, or perspective captured, the head looks a little deeper than the body but overall very good
I'm sure you'll be very famous with this kind of drawings somedays

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what it is, either, but I think the gel pen outline makes it stand out more. I do want to try more pieces with the matching gel pen outlines, because they look so soft and more painterly

This was a nice change of color scheme for me. I usually don't use much red, so it was fun to combine it with such cool colors.

I agree about the head thing, but I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't have said so. Your detail makes it unnoticable. ^^

Did you use one color for your inking?

The smaller ratio of the head to the body is a change I've made only recently, so I notice it more. My original inspiration in furry art were mostly artists with animation backgrounds, and I adopted a few of the more cartoonish ratios.

For this piece I tried to match the outline color with the color of that area. I used silver for her hair and fur, purple for her skirt and hair ribbon, blue for her eyes, and pink and red for the rest of her accessories. The purple is a little strong. I probably should have used a lighter color or blended it in better. I usually just use black outlines, but it's fun to use color. It makes me consider the contrast more, as I would have to notice in painting.

I think it fits the picture more with the slightly larger hair. And I agree that black would have been too harsh. I couldn't notice the lines, that's why I asked.

My original scans are huge, so the lines are a lot clearer to me. The deviantart sized file makes them almost disappear into the shading, which I really like. I think I have one or two more nice gel pen inked pieces. I'll try to find them and put them up.

^^, Yea deviantart does seem to do that. It does your artwork much justice. ^^

Thank you. I took me quite a while to be this good, and I have lots of room for improvment. When I started out, my family and other artists were super supportive and it really helped. My girlscout troop was amazing when I shared my very simple Sailormoon drawings. I improved really quikcly when they were all asking me for drawings and I had time to draw for them

Thanks. Gel pen with colored pencil is great for that, if you don't mind the glittery sheen from the gel ink.
