Description One of my all-time favorites and a bestseller as well. This is my water mage Minami, a white Japanese-American cat from my Himeko story, with a lovely splash of her element.

This piece was pretty painstaking. I lucked out on the composition, it turned out so much more gorgeous that I had hoped for, but I had to color it to reinforce the motion. I think it worked out beautifully. I added a violet to her color scheme for the integrity of this piece, and I think it really helps. Minami was raised to refined and restrained, and I like how her formal and modest clothes contrast with the wild freedom of the water. Water is probably my favorite element to draw, both for the color and the form.

A friend and trained art critic told me my compositions tend follow figure-8s, and that is especially clear here. I wasn't conscious of it until she pointed it out. I just knew I loved sweeping curves that feel complete and somewhat self-contained. Wings, long flowing dresses and tresses do that naturally, so no wonder that's what I focus on. If I didn't catch myself, my figure drawing homework would all look like harems from the amount of fabric I use in the background

I used Pigma Micron 005 for the inked outlines, Prismacolor colored pencils and maybe two Derwent watercolor pencils for the color, and white gel pen for the highlights. Got to make that water shine! The paper is a warm gray memory book paper, my favorite color from the five-color pack it comes in. I scan the drawings into my computer, so that makes the colors a little smoother than they really are.

i like how you've captured the essence of the water by selectively spot filling in certain areas. looks gorgeous

The water effect is brilliant! Over done just a little, but other than that it looks good either way

Thank you. I'm not sure that I'll make any more in that series, but I am drawing more characters with elemental magic. They're a lot of fun, but very time consuming All that water took forever, but it was worth it.

I know, the way its colored just by being still, I understand its the shine(reflection) and then its the bottom of it that should have a little shine from were the light comes from... saw it on a floor once >.< but I kan not imagen how hard it must be to draw it coming out from your hands etc.

Thank you. This is one of my best pieces, even though it's older. The swirling composition really suits my sensibilities.

This piece still amazes me, because I didn't think I could create such a nice composition from something so simple. I'm really pleased with how the water turned out. I had to be patient with it, but I really like it. I like messages, don't worry

The water got almost tedious to do, but it did turn out great, so it was worth it.

That really is pretty. I could see why it sold so well. The detail in the water and the flowing fabric are so pretty.
Great job on the water. =3

Thank you. I came from the CLAMP school of element representation, and they do have lovely water. Mine has gotten more delicate, though, and I like that. I don't want my influences to be too glaringly obvious. *in the mood to draw more water now*
