Seriously,

Maybe it's a idea to state clearly that these are SCREENSHOTS only. And that there are NO servers any more on the planet hosting themes for Emerge.

Looks very nice, and seems like you build a pretty consistent desktop environment.
Some questions and opinions:
-Is the virtual desktop pager part of emerge or is it a rainmeter stuff? I've been stopped using rainmeter ages ago when I recognized I'm most into samurize.
-However the pager looks very nice, do you really need a pager for the virtual desktops? I've been using virtual desktops for quite a long time, and after a while I recognized I'm rather interested in a visual representation which workspace I'm on, not the app window miniatures. Since I use the different workspaces always for the same apps, I know where to find stuff. (Browsers on workspace 1, mail and IM on 2, all the rest on 3.)
-A good customizable menu is a must have for every desktop, pity that windows lacks that. The logic of your one resembles the linux logic but it seems to need one extra click.
-What is the size of maximized windows? Do they cover or go below the tabs of the top bar?
-I dunno what emerge does exactly, but don't you feel like trying the SecondShell window manager that can be found in my signiture?

Nice work!

Hey thanks for the post!

-The virtual desktops are part of emergeDesktop (eD), yes. Rainmeter only puts the background to make it more appealing (actually, it puts the background of almost everything since eD is only the bare bones of the system).
-I have been using virtual desktops for a while with Dexpot first, i dont know if you have heard of it. While it provides a wide range of functions, i was looking for something more simpler. Because emerge has the desktops integrated i decided to stick with it to have everything without adding more 3rd party apps (besides, some functions from Dexpot didnt play well with eD). I used the desktops almost like you do, first with work/office stuff, second with the rest, third with internet stuff. But i soon realized that i was just using 2, both just to make a larger workspace area. If i have too many windows flying around in one desktop, i drag a couple to the other desktop regardles on which desktop i am instead of minimizing them all and the pager does the job just as intended at least for me .
-Im not sure if i understand what you mean with that one extra click. The menu is from eD and you can put about anything you like in there, but you cannot skin it that well, is the only feature i miss.
-Windows maximize just below the tabs, @ 42 px. It might sound bizarre, but it actually gives some "breathing" to the taskbar and it looks good, at least for me .
-I already gave SecondShell a try, but it doesnt play well with eD. Dunno exactly what the bug is, but it moves the tray and some Rainmeter windows out of place and practically disables my workspacearea, which is defined by eD (virtual desktops, menu and tray stop working :/ ).

I must say though, i was actually moved by your customizing and kinda inspired by your screenshots, i just took a different approach. So some of the credits to you too

hey, cool

The need of a decent virtual desktop solution took me to the BlackBox for windows replacement shell and left me there for several years. None of the virtual desktop solutions that existed at that time worked as I needed. I have tried _all_ of them and also all of the ones that have been released eversince.

After leaving BlackBox (it didn't work well with Vista when I upgraded from Win2k) the best one I found was VirtaWin, that is what I use today. There's a 3rd party Samurize plugin for that which is powerful enough to create any kind of pagers you imagine, but seeing which is the active workspace is fine for me like what you can see in the top left part on this shot: [link] It's the three stripes with the active glowing and it's name above them.

I absolutely understand what you mean by that breathing. I guess the whole aim of such desktop customizations is to give you productivity boost, and leave some room for eye-candy in its minimalistic, non-distracting way. In fact that leads to an idea I had but could never really implement, but your eD bar might make that possible: Tabbed workspaces. It would be great if browser-like tabs could switch between workspaces as if they were different pages of the same, one-monitor-sized desktop. Is that possible with the skinning capabilities of eD? Somehow I see the same screenshots on emerge's site for several years and thought it was over.

Exactly, thats what i was aiming at with this desktop!

And about the tabbed workspaces, that is actually a pretty neat idea! Emerge does not have the skin capabilities per se (all the GUI is made with Rainmeter actually ), but it does have a nifty tool which makes any eD command (i.e. call the desktops) available from any 3rd party app, like Rainmeter. So for example, the start menu is actually a button made with Rainmeter which triggers the eD menu using this tool. I think it is possible to have different tabs, made with Rainmeter, each with the comand to trigger a desktop. The only problem i see now is how to highlight the current desktop, or give any visual feedback to let the user know which desktop is currently active (you can change via hotkeys, i change via mousewheel left/right, and Rainmeter should notice these changes too. Since Rainmeter would be in charge of that part (visuals/skinning), i think there should be some kind of plug-in to work together with eD (there is none as of now), and/or maybe a workaround to pull the info of the currently active desktop directly from eD itslef, but i dont know if there is any documentation to do this within eD.

Anyways, ill will be working on this when i get the time (been busy lately :/ ) But it sure is a great idea!
