Ah! The finished product. I'm really not sure how long this took. Pretty sure it was less than 20 hours. Probably less than 15. It's 95% completed with cheap Crayola colored pencils. The other 5% is an even cheaper dollar store calligraphy pen for the wings and Spectracolor colored pencils from Design (I've heard they stopped making them in the 90's)
My favorite album of all-time is Nirvana's In Utero album. Such an amazing punk rock statement to the world after the unpredictable success of Nevermind. And the 2 couldn't be more different. Nevermind is a great listen and something the world will never see again. Not in that context anyway. A tiny band's debut album sold more than Garth Brooks, Guns N Roses, and Michael Jackson for cryin' out loud. But In Utero was basically a middle finger to all of that craziness.

Thanks a lot Nikki. The wings were the only part I knew how to pull off. Everything else was made up on the spot. I was "winging it".

It's amazing how much you can do with the cheapest supplies possible. This is amazing, man! And I don't know if you know this but Nirvana is my absolute favorite band of all time with In Utero being my favorite album! I love this so much and I wish I knew my way around traditional art even 1/8 as well as you do!

Yeah, if you get creative enough and get over the mind-set that you need expensive tools to create decent art, it's surprising what you can do with kids arts and craft supplies! ha ha. (Being broke doesn't hurt either 
In Utero is a masterpiece. And it's hilarious that the record label didn't even want to put it out 'cause it sounded so ugly. They were basically telling one of the biggest bands in the world at the time that their album was crap. People kinda agreed though. Nevermind has sold twice as much as In Utero has over the years. I don't care though, that doesn't mean a damn thing. Led Zeppelin never won a Grammy and they're considered one of the most influential bands of all-time.

I really wish I could push myself to do more traditional works, hell, I even have a box of fancy schmancy Primacolor Pencils lying around here somewhere, I don't know why I'm not doing more real life, pencil-to-paper art.
And as for In Utero, I love the fact that the band ran off to record the album in secrecy, got it finished in only about two weeks and that it was meant as Kurt's way of appealing to the audience that loved them prior to Nevermind and scare off the fans that only knew them for their more polished, radio-friendly music. That album is the reason I went out and bought every single studio album, EP, box set and live album they put out.

Yep, the album got me hooked for life too. I thought I'd hate the 2013 mix they just released, but it was an interesting listen. It's mind-blowing to think the whole thing only took two weeks. Nobody does that anymore. They spend more than 2 wks. tweeking cymbal hits with pro-tools.

Know what? I'm giving the ol' tablet a break for a while. These pencils have just been sitting here since I graduated high school and stopped going to art class. I oughta get a feel for them again.
Nirvana really pulled off something impressive, recording a legendary album in the time it takes most bands to make their way into a recording studio, while Guns 'N Roses took a decade and a half to put out what was, put nicely, not their best work.
