FAQ - PLEASE READ!!!

Where do I buy my foam?
I buy it locally so I can't really help anyone find suppliers you will have to do some research yourself.

Can I heat foam with a hairdryer?
You can try I just don't think they get hot enough to be able to shape foam well enough.

What is Thermoplastic?
Thermoplastic is a plastic that can be shaped and molded when heated. examples of thermoplastics are worbla and wonderflex.

What Thermoplastic am I using?
I am using something called Rx5145 from a company named Rhenoflex

How do you apply your curved (clingwrap + tape) template, and turn it into a flat template on the EVA foam and still get an accurate measurement?

Hi! I'm really excited to use this tutorial! However, do you have a tutorial on how to make the clingwrap/tape pattern? I'm a beginner, so I'm lost on how that works.

Thank you!

OMG this is literally the best tutorial for making female breastplate armor I have found so far, thank you! I'm trying to make a female Reaper costume, among other costumes, and I really do appreciate your tutorial! Is it alright if I share a link to this tutorial on my cosplay blog? I really want to credit where I learned how I made my costume!

Do you happen to have any suggestions on how to fill in the seams/gap from glueing 2 foams together? My armor set is just about done, but ive not found a clear answer on what to use to fill the gaps.

Which thermal plastic did you use??? It doesn't look like worbla so I'm super curious if this was an alternative (worbla's sooo expensive QAQ)

Do you happen to have any tutorials on how you done the borders (or details) on the last photo showing? This is really well explained and easy to follow! ^^

Kinpatsu-Cosplay In reply to OceanPirate [2015-03-16 15:40:04 +0000 UTC]

I don't have a tutorial on it but its very easy to do, you just cut your details out of the foam and then sand the edges round with a dremel, then you can sand it with finer sandpaper to get the shredded pieces off and press is  smooth with a heat gun

OceanPirate In reply to Kinpatsu-Cosplay [2015-03-16 16:21:54 +0000 UTC]

Hm...I can try to do that. Since I need to have borders around edges,so that they look like 3d,something like this www.facebook.com/lifestreamcos… But all I get are flat surfaces. >,<

Do you prefer Wonderflex or Worbla for a breastplate? and why? >_<

I prefer worbla but I can't afford it XP its just much easier to work with for me and its more versatile

Awesome ! I just have to ask something : If I make armor over EVA foam only, (3mm), will it be strong enough to survive on a convention?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kinpatsu-Cosplay In reply to Shynaa26 [2015-01-03 16:10:06 +0000 UTC]

That's very thin for a whole set of armor you will probably get some damage, I normally use 6mm and 1cm sheets of foam and I geta little bit of damage from bumping into things and stuff but I think 3mm will probably crack a bit and take more wear because it is so thin D:

Do you think this will work for Vengeful Spirit's one? The belly is almost completely exposed, so I'm not entirely sure how to go about making this. I might need to get direct help from you x'D

Kinpatsu-Cosplay In reply to InsaneNinjane [2014-12-31 19:32:55 +0000 UTC]

I would do venge's top a bit differently I would maybe still make the cups from foam so you can get the right shape and it would be reinforced, but then cover them in vinyl or pleather and then make the rest of that shirt out of vinly or pleather as well if you know what I mean :3 We need to have a craft day and we can totally brainstorm ideas and stuff XP

haha nah you won't pop out XP you can wear a bra under it you just need to  put a clear strap in and then it will look like its open in the front even though its not had to do the same for my castanic top XD

Failure-At-Failing [2014-12-30 05:02:14 +0000 UTC]

This tutorial (well, the one you have on Youtube) was the one I used when making my breastplate for Ziggs. It seriously helped. I had a lot of trouble making the cups fit right, so I ended up sacrificing a bra. But I now realize I was doing it wrong and this makes far more sense LOL
Probably going to remake that with this new found knowledge haha

Yeah I was a little bit unclear in the video so I thought I would try make another tutorial where I sort of explain better XP hehe

Awesome tutorial! I love your cosplays   I want to make a leona cosplay and will probably use this as a guide. How did you find something to shape the breast part with? That's the one thing I'm having problems with right now.. = w=''

Kinpatsu-Cosplay In reply to AngelicSuzumi [2014-12-29 23:19:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! XP haha I honestly just had to look around and see what I could work with XD I'm currently using the most random object! Its the top of a big lolypop toy my little sister bought XD hahaha so you just need to look around and try find something that works for you, I know Kamui uses a clear orb that she found at a craft store but you could try using different kinds of balls and I even use my knee sometimes

Haha thanks for the feed back. I've got this big glass orb floating around some where I'll have to give it a try!
