Hi! You are a Master of Eva Foam Construction Technique! I too, have to make bits and pieces of Cosplay Armor, from time to time, but mostly I'm a "Man of the Cloth" and help other FX Foam Technicians by sewing up the Capes, Gloves, and muscle tight fitting Bodysuits that usually go with a Superhero. In America, I'm on an Artist's Journey to find a complete Waterbased Method of sealing the foam, applying the paint, and finishing up with a waterbased clear finish polymer coating. You look like you've acheived this already by using your DIP, Black Base painr, Acrylics, then are you sealing with a clear coat finish? Great work my friend!

Loose French Translation -

Salut!

Merci! C'est super!

How did you attach the horns? A lot of glue or is there a special method relating to the holes?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kurerukreatis In reply to stormlightloren [2014-07-14 14:21:10 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! ^^ I just create two holes on the top of the helmet, to insert horns with neopren glue around the base

MariKatzuki [2014-04-05 02:44:01 +0000 UTC]

The helmet looks amazing! I've been looking into some ways to create a helmet for cosplay, and this was extremely helpful. But I was wondering what type of foam did you use? Was it craft foam?
And how did you get the foam to make the basic shape of the helmet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kurerukreatis In reply to MariKatzuki [2014-04-07 06:57:42 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for your message: I use EVA foam with 10 mm of thickness You have to use a hot air gun to heat up the foam and after you can shape it ^^

AliNere [2014-04-03 01:20:58 +0000 UTC]

because it is made out of foam, how flimsy is the helmet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kurerukreatis In reply to AliNere [2014-04-03 06:40:20 +0000 UTC]

The foam is 10 mm thick so the helmet is very solid and it remains light and pleasant to wear.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kurerukreatis In reply to Nessnkr [2013-12-29 19:14:50 +0000 UTC]

Oh my gosh! This was looks so amazing! Your English was perfectly fine! I wanted to know what kind of paint you used to make it look black. I wasn't sure if that was the DIP or something else.

kurerukreatis In reply to Yoruichi213 [2013-12-11 08:02:37 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for your comment I use black acrylic paint for the first layer after DIP.

fir3l0rd [2013-12-10 16:02:09 +0000 UTC]

What product is it exactly that you call Dip? Since I would really like to use this technique for small armor parts.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kurerukreatis In reply to fir3l0rd [2013-12-10 18:03:39 +0000 UTC]

Here is the link for the DIP, it's a french product so I don't know what is the name in other countries: www.castorama.fr/store/Etanche…

It's like latex or Gesso but very interesting because of the power of flexibility.

If I had to guess as to what the American equivalent would be, I would guess Plastidip. It's widely used in the LARP community to seal/prime foam weapons to be painted. See the facebook group here for more details:

Also, if you are wondering where all the random people are coming from liking/visiting this post, Kamui Cosplay (www.facebook.com/KamuiCos) featured this tutorial on her facebook page. Great tutorial, thanks for sharing! I always love seeing the unique ways different people approach costuming and this project turned out fabulously!

Bonsoir ! Merci d'avance ! ^^
