Description Wuthering Heights is one of my favourite books. I'm a Brontë Girl by nature and the work of the Brontë sisters played a big part in my life when I was growing up.

I've definitely been in a Brontë mood lately, especially as I've been in recovery from surgery for the past couple of weeks, so I feel I've been in the Catherine Earnshaw point in my life what with being very sick and in a long-distance relationship.

So, I decided to express that with an illustration of Catherine Earnshaw waiting for Heathcliff after he's run away. I wanted her dress to be red, but I think blue suited her emotions more.

How did you do that rain effect?

It’s from a white gel pen and I just flick in the lines in the same direction.

Thanks also what colours do you use to make a skin colour and tone?

Kitty-Grimm In reply to WolfWarrior9 [2016-04-06 17:57:35 +0000 UTC]

It varies depending on the skin tone, but for paler skin colours like in this one, I usually go for a mix of white, red, brown and maybe a little bit of indigo to give it a cooler tone.

Oooh wow I think you've captured the essence of the scene nicely. Her expression especially, really catches my attention. It's got a unique longing look to it that seems to contrast very sharply with the blustery weather. Lovely job with the colors too.

Thank you very much! I'm glad I was able to capture that and the colours were a bit of a challenge in places, so I'm glad they worked out.

So, so, so beautiful! Wuthering Heights is my favorite book and I'm rereading at the moment. I loved the colors of your drawing and the expression on the Cathy's face. I would like to have a talent like yours! I pinned your illustration on my board "Wuthering Heights" in Pinterest, with the credits and the url of your deviantart. I hope you don't mind.

Thank you very much! It's a big favourite of mine too and it's more skill than talent, really.

Well, since you told me and that I'll be getting credit, no I don't mind. I'm just glad you told me.

Thank you! And yes, the white was done with a white gel pen. Surprisingly handy, those things.

The rain and details in her face are spectacular! I like how you made her curvier, as you do a lot of the girls you draw. It's looks so classical and beautiful.

Got a Jane Eyre vibe from this, so if not right heroine at least the right period/author set (if that last part makes sense?) Still can't stand this novel, gimme Jane Eyre any day, but beautiful illustration nonetheless. Not sure if red would of suited her- whether it's because of the emotional status of the character at this point or my personal view of her. Red seems too much of a 'muchness' for her in my view I guess, she always was a more muted heroine to me, but I guess that's what I get from enjoying more Alice and Jane type characters

Good to see you back after a Christmas break; always look forward to seeing your art come up in the notifications part of DA. Hope your surgery went well and you are on the road of recovery now ^_^

Jane Eyre is actually my favourite book, so maybe that shone through. I get that Wuthering Heights isn't everyone's favourite, but for me I like that it comes from a real place in the author's life, like any book from the sisters.

And thank you! For the compliment and the hopes. The surgery was fine. Hurt like hell afterwards, but I'm doing much better now. Thanks, darling!

I like how she is not as thin as a finger (how most of these middle age heroines are), I have not read the book but I love these kinds of books so I will have to out it to my reading list.

WH is actually set just before the Victorian era, not the Middle Ages, but thank you! I like to add weight to the women I draw, as I feel it gives them more character.

And I definitely recommend it. It's a great book, though some would consider it harsh. Just remember that the characters aren't actually meant to be likeable.
