Description Yay! More When in Rome art!

*ahem* As you may know, one of the things the Romans were famous for was their bathhouses. They had steam rooms and cold baths and saunas and where there were natural hot springs they had hot baths.

Going to the baths was also kind of a social thing. So I decided to draw Finglehorn and Angelo relaxing at the baths.

It was also a good chance for me to practice male anatomy, too. I'm really happy with how well this piece turned out! There were a lot of things that I practiced on on this piece, hot water being one of them. (Hot water indoors looks different than cold water outdoors. ) Also, when I was all finished with the picture, I used some chalk pastels to give the picture a steam effect. The steam isn't all that noticeable when you look at the picture, but looking at the picture without the steam (which I scanned just in case this trick didn't work) and then with the steam, it really does make a difference.

I might post the step-by-step process of this picture later on, I'm not sure.

Hmmm.....not much more to say about this picture. Enjoy!

Very, VERY nice work with the anatomy and general setting on this piece, Lexa! The background has the perfect amount of detail, enough to look believable, but not so much that it takes away from Finglehorn and Angelo! I really like those effects on the water too.
Great job with Angelo's wings here too, you found a great way to put them into this setting without making it seem awkward, and as usual the detail on them looks lovely! Seriously loving Finglehorn here too, with that expression and attitude that just totally suits him! The shading on his hair also stands out as especially impressive!
As always, very awesome work indeed!

Thank you!!

Glad to hear that about the effects! That can be a tricky thing to balance when it comes to backgrounds.
Angelo's wings CAN look awkward/out of place in a lot of settings, so it's an interesting challenge (and something I need to practice on anyway) to try to make them look natural in settings like this. I'm happy to hear that I pulled that off in this piece!
lol! After drawing this picture, I had to add Finglehorn to my "list of my own characters that I'm a fangirl of". I just love his laid-back, cocky attitude. It was really fun adding those shinies to his hair!

Thanks again!!

You're welcome! 8D

I can imagine that. I know that I've at least sketched characters with angel wings before, but they're always spread out because that's been the only way I could think to draw them. Although, with your new tutorial, that will probably change next time I try to draw wings.
Hehe, and I'm adding him to my "List of my friends' characters that I'm a fangirl of"!

That's how I always used to draw wings too, but now (believe it or not) I find it easier to draw them folded!
Anyway, glad my tutorial could be of help!

Heeheeheehee!

I can totally see how that would happen, after learning how to draw them properly both ways. Makes me think that I should probably get practicing sometime soon...

When you have the time. But be warned...once you get started drawing wings, it's hard to stop!

You and me both, sister! Unfortunately, the closest I can get to it right now is a luke-warm bath in a tiny plastic tub.

Thanks! This one was really fun to color!

lol! Well better a hot shower than a lukewarm bath if you ask me.
