Description It's 3rd edition of Photo Challenge (www.deviantart.com/kizzy-i-kei… ). All participans had 1 month (whole September 2018) to draw the landscape from given photo. This time it was photo of Ingleton Waterfalls (www.deviantart.com/montymouse/… ) taken by MontyMouse .

My conclusions?

This time I avoided 2 mistakes which I did in my previous attempts: problem with no focal point in my 1st try and too colourful (in my opinion) palette which I applied on my 2nd try. So here is a progress .

Analyzing my previous artworks and observing how others did it I realized also that aquarells forces the painter to make artistical choices and stylize some elements to make the painting looking good. So this time I didn't try to depict everything exactly like on photo (but trying to keep the major part of it) like I did in my first try, but also not go totally wild what I did with colours in 2nd. Using photo as reference is quite challenging in case of aquarells because, as for me now, it always is more interpretation than depicting. It is of course possible to paint photorealistic aquarelle paintings but (despite they require incredibly skill to do so) they often loose then their characteristical lightness and transparent look which we all love in aquarells .

I'm looking forward to try the next photo (I'll publish it in my journal when it's choosen if we decide to continue). Especially that comparing results of other artists facing the same theme and observing their artistical choices is really interesting and educative .

Painted with aquarells on 200g/m2 Fabriano paper 24x32cm.

The same painting by others so far:

Fajnie słyszeć, że akurat te elementy . Drzewko to po prawej tak? Mnie osobiście ono też się najbardziej podoba. Jeśli by wyciąć górną prawą ćwiartkę obrazka (no może nieco wężej), to powstałby osobny samodzielny obrazek z tym drzewkiem w roli głównej . Choć teraz też jest w miarę głównym elementem .

Thank you a lot for your comment . I have a lot of fun doing this challenge and I must say that if I was alone with it, I'd probably don't do it at all. But knowing that someone else also is struggling with it and waiting to see my version is really motivating and encouraging to just try. Even if I don't know how to paint something I don't worry, just keep trying. Maybe someone else will cope with the element  problematic for me so I can see how it was done and learn something .

You're a great little group and it's always fun to see all 3 submissions in the notification center of the group watercolorists . I'm just always wondering why do some submissions looks so similar and then I see they are from you three.

Thank you . I decided to stylize it and I think it's good direction for me. I feel good in such style and it looks quite effective I think .

Fantastic, I love the fence and the subtle pink tones here too! Excellent painting. 😊

Thank you . This pink wasn't planned really pink, originally it's brick reddish brown, but because it's a bit greyish it in the end made some sense here ^^'.

Because fence is regular and detailed element I didn't want to let it grab viewer's attention too much so I made it maximally transparent and light. It is seen because its shape is so different from other elements but can't win with stronger darker elements like trees in front of it .
