Lol, my boys sleep in their litter box as well.. Im sad to hear that your babies passed on to the rainbow bridge.. maybe they will find litter boxes to sleep in there!

I'm sure they have. They loved their hammocks too.. I just couldn't use any in that cage, because you could open the roof

Ah- I know what you mean.. 2 of my cages have doors in the ceiling, and it makes it rather hard for hammock placement

KlomZy In reply to chaosismyeuphoria [2012-07-25 10:50:51 +0000 UTC]

the cage was really poorly made(there are pics of it in the gallery - the big white one), so the ceiling wasn't even a door, you just couldn't hang anything the roof would fall down-_-

One of my rats used her litter tray as a bed too, I just gave up trying to toilet train her haha. Your rats are lovely.

I used that one mostly as a hammock the ones I have now are litter trained. The last of the gray one passed away on may 30th

Two of my boys have made it to the 3 year mark, hopefully they'll go strong a while longer as they still seem pretty healthy. It's a shame they don't live longer.

Wow, that's great!
I'm on my last two own rats now.. Saving up for a dog instead.. I can't deal with the losses anymore.. This year alone I'll lose at least four rats..

LadyTara In reply to KlomZy [2012-07-24 21:23:04 +0000 UTC]

Oh no It is very hard, we rodent owners have to go through so much more loss than other pet owners. I lost one just before Christmas and another a couple of months ago, it never gets easier.

KlomZy In reply to LadyTara [2012-07-25 10:49:34 +0000 UTC]

That is true.. And comments about it's cheaper to just let them die instead of taking them to the vets, because it's cheaper to just get a new one..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LadyTara In reply to KlomZy [2012-07-25 11:40:38 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I hate it when people say that. As far as I'm concerned, it's an owner's responsibility to take care of their pet its whole life, if taking it to the vet eases its suffering then that's what should be done. One of my rats was scratching like crazy and starting to cut herself on her claws because she got lice all of a sudden, I had no money to get by for a week because I spend £30 to take her to the vet for treatment. She needed it, end of.

KlomZy In reply to LadyTara [2012-07-25 14:02:02 +0000 UTC]

Agreed.. My mother is deeply impressed that I'm taking the responsibility to have them pts when needed.. What choice do I have? It's my responsibility, I'm the one that took them in. It hurts like hell, but It's my responsibility as a pet parent..

LadyTara In reply to KlomZy [2012-07-25 14:03:54 +0000 UTC]

It's the best attitude to have. It's a painful thing to have sick animals put to sleep but it's the best thing for them, a good owner knows that and will do something about it. I was in tears in the vets when my boy Hades was put to sleep but he'd had a stroke and could hardly move around, I'd never just let him die like that.

KlomZy In reply to LadyTara [2012-07-25 18:56:38 +0000 UTC]

True.. I just got home from the vet myself..
This time I left with the same amount as I came in with at least..

Cute!

My rat always sleeps in his litter tray and never uses it for what it's meant for. xD

I have to change the bedding and stuff just as often anyway..

Aww. I see what you mean. My rat kicks his bedding out of the litter tray (which is now a little bed)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KlomZy In reply to IluvAtem [2010-05-30 18:01:39 +0000 UTC]

I have bedding in it, since they pee in it, but other than that, it's really not a point in it

I don't get how the ones at the bottom in bigger piles can breathe tho

KlomZy In reply to Duzloo [2010-04-29 19:20:58 +0000 UTC]

I've never figured it out
When my youngest was small(8weeks or something..) the biggest lay on top of the youngest.. if he didn't they crawled under him:S
He was about 600g and they 90:S

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Duzloo In reply to KlomZy [2010-04-29 19:25:58 +0000 UTC]

I guess they're just very solid and the belly must rather be made of a very fluffy skin than muscles or fat just like we have it. Maybe it's just like a fuzzy and comfy blanket
