This is a full color pencil rendering of one of the most exciting jobs I picked up in awhile... Why so exciting you ask??.... Well it features Frog and Magus from Chrono Trigger, thats why!! Chrono Trigger is one of my favorite games of all time, so when a client came to me and wanted a "Frog/Magus" tattoo... well you could imagine I was more then delighted....So here you have it, before skin. I did this entirely in color-pencil, just as I intend on tattooing it... a pre-tattoo-prep strategy I've always employed when I want to be particularly mindful of color choices and whatnot.
The chosen illustrations that have been re-rendered here are classics of the given characters, as per the clients discretion, in the interest of really paying homage to the game and associated art itself. I DID however take liberty to amend a few things as I went that I felt made the piece much stronger without drastically altering the original images....
What we have here by the way is all prisma-color on vellum. The only thing added in any other medium was a signature in photoshop.

Wow! This ALMOST makes me want a tatoo. But nope... I'm still deathly afraid of needles...
But you've come closer than anyone else by appealing to my CT obsession.
The colors are perfect! I love! Magus' hair and scythe, but he looks a little to happy to truly be Magus. He might smile evilly (like he's thrilled with that fact that you're on fire of something), but here he seems genuinely happy. Frog is perfect. I love his shoes! (I know that's a weird thing to focus on, but I'm also obsessed with shoes).

Ahhhh! I'm glad you like the shoes!! I HATE Toriyama's shoes... always have... thus, that proved a creative liberty I had to take in frogs conception here....

Do... Want... so... much. Though i'd have one of Magus, Ayla, and Frog; those were my go to 3 when I was finally able to switch out Chrono from the team. Me <3 Ayla sooo much~

This would be an awesome tattoo! I have to agree however, Magus looks a little odd. his arms are at a weird proportion, due to the perspective it looks like they are broken. His expression seems off too. The scythe and cape look great tho! I can't wait to see the tattoo!

You know, as time has passed the more I look at this the more and more agitated I become with myself for not have completely taken liberty to re-create Magus as I did with Frog.... So I can't say anything other than I agree with you on the Magus note... He does look freakin' odd to me too...LoL

As for the tattoo, my client has been MIA for over a month now.... I get soooo frustrated when they do this to me..... People always slow down spending on tattoos right before the holidays roll in.... I suppose I should have expected it, but I was pretty excited to see this one through.... Thus the delay is well.... discouraging...

I don't normally critique, but I can tell you are the type of person that is serious about growing and learning! Akira Toriyama's art is difficult to interpret in any other style, so mad props for that.
and I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE... when a client disappears after commissioning work! it makes me want to fry them with my light of judgement! (ywee hee hee) I feel your pain, man.

It's freaking awesome!!! I just think that Magus is a little way too "happy", but maybe its just me that thinks of him in a sort of like "always bad mood" character

It was sort of a "I'm happy to be swinging this scythe around" expression I was going for... or at least that was what I gathered from the original references... not quite shouting, not quite laughing or happy.. maybe just a bit insane?
