Description Reference photo used with the permission of ~lagatafritz ( model is her beautiful, and very expressive Mother)
Acrylic on canvas 9x12
Original has been donated to raise money for AIDS patients
I have updated this with a version that doesn't have the over sized signature. I really ruined the painting.
based on a photo by ~lagatafritz

I apologize for the delay in the credit...I couldn't recall your exact user name...fortunately you stopped by my page and it clicked as to who you were.

I could not possibly critique this I LOVE the style. I mean it's not ultra-realism, which is what I normally lean towards, though it does have a high rate of realism, but wow. Stunning. The background, quite simple, is so beautiful too I just find it so mystical!

Which AIDS foundation did you give it to? I donated a piece of mine to the AIDS foundation too!

This is quite haunting.
Her face looks a bit tricky because the pale side and the dark side apparently didn't belong to the same face....but that makes this one interesting.

Thank you. It was one I was going to give an example on for when my signature was not very thought out.
I make it quite a bit smaller now....since learning how to use pen and ink. I don't bother with brushes for lettering.

very good!

haunting eyes and an almost childish dress and stars in the background only intensifies her very dark and seirous mood.

love it

Very pretty! I like the expression and mood.

You're not alone: I hate my own signature too...that's why I use the fanciful 'CG'.

Very nicely done! I loved the brushwork when viewed in full size, and the signature didn't take anything away from it (my lettering also sucks, and even worse with an airbrush).

Thanks for full viewing. I have always had my settings to full view for each deviation..I understand dial up people not doing it...I was on dial up for years.
But there is so much missed by not full viewing and both the artist and view are cheated.

Off my soap box now.

Thank you for the comment and compliment.

We finally switched from dial-up to DSL this past year (after 12 years of dial-up) so I take advantage and view ALL the art I look at in full view.

Again, I loved the brushwork - it's something that (when done well) I can appreciate as an airbrush artist.

I have been reading a book on airbrush...I actually own one that I cant seem to get the hang of...

anyways, I was very surprised that the writer whole heatedly recommended using a brush for certain effects....makes sense in a way.

Most people don't realize it, but using a "hairy stick" (a traditional brush) is pretty common among airbrush artists. We also use watercolor pencils, pens, and colored pencils on a regular basis too.

If you're interested in the airbrush, drop me a note anytime, I can give you a few tips and don't get discouraged, like any art tool it just takes patience and practice.

And dont be surprised if I take you up on your offer...have had sick kids all week, but might have some time this afternoon to play with it, and pinpoint my difficulties, so I can ask sensible questions.
Thanks!

I think I have a machine problem..I get a mental block when it comes to machines...really weird fact about me, I scored in the 97 percentile for mechanical apptitude, among both males and females, on the minnesota mechanical apptitude test.
But I dont like them...I can fix them and I think they know that.
They also know if I have any extra money.

Machines don't like me much either, and I suspect it's because I'm NOT technical at all! They always seen to know when I've got "extra" money, and I remember one year in particular the transmisison to my truck, my refrigerator AND my stove all gave out about two weeks before X-mas!

Very nice Kelli - I like the way you fade out her face and the expression on her face and in her tentative eyes. I have had occasion to meet Geisha and I think you caught the look of one in the early phase of her career, not yet battle hardened. Barrie

Well...maybe what I have done is caught the look of a woman dressing up as a geisha..it's funny, the model is actually in her 40's or 50's...but had a certain vulnerability and look of wanting to please.
