Worlds within worlds.

I see the main figure as the real-life sleepwalker and the winter scene through the door as her dream-world. In the dream she is about to step off a cliff, and the resulting terror causes sudden incontinence - her emptying bottle.

Forgive me my deconstructions.

oh i like this one very much!
i feel very threatened when i look at this painting-like the sleepwalker is going to try to harm the children or something--the bottles of (ginger ale?) support the possibility that they are in fact children
everything about this painting suggests someone is in danger--the dog is being used to protect, the children are staying back from view and possibly thinking of a plan to escape--oh it's so neat! it's like you painted a scene from a movie made up in your mind or something
very cool

Can't stop looking at this... I think what we see are the two girls' reflections in a mirror, because they're looking out at the "sleepwalker" but if they were behind a window, it'd be at an impossible angle...but then again, it's as if the dog is standing with the two girls...
I want to know what that yellow liquid is I particularly like the girl with black hair in white... it's her eyes... it sort of feels like hatred, like she's protecting her house or her sister(?) (or atleast wants to)
Wow... I love this. Out of curiosity, how long does it take you to complete a painting like this?

this thing is so rife with symbology and metaphor
it requires its own psychoanalysis.

i'll just go with the elements i like:

the spiderweb cracks in the mirror
the little moon shape and smudged into the foggy french doors
the expression on the whit-clad boy/girl in the front of the reflection
the broken/missing part of the mirror in the shape of a heeled shoe
the black water falling into . . .

and WHAT liquid, praytell is in their soda bottles?

I'm getting the feeling that this piece is alluding to the restrictions of gender roles? The mirror being smashed is maybe both the boyish-looking girl breaking out of her role, to the astonishment of the very typical female in nightgown behind her... I love the break because it looks like a spiders web... Like she can rebel and break free but there are always going to be webs trying to hold her in place... the harness on the dog seems to me to imply the same thing... the bottles I don't get so much. Subtle phalic reference? They're roughly the same shape... and you drink from them... the typical-female is holding hers up as though she intends to still drink from it... the more tomboyish girl, on the other hand, has hers down as though she is pouring it out... like she doesn't intend to drink from it anymore.

I feel like you have a lot of the same ideas as I do about what it really means to be female... and that is so weird to me because, pardon me but-- you are a boy? I am really curious as to how you work. I consider a lot of the themes in your paintings as feme-theory relevant... am I putting that on you? Is it my interpretation? Or did you intend to construct the same things I see?

I really want to see this one in print form. I love it. Plus fav. I would put it at the top of my favorites if that were an option.

I don't see the sleepwalker about to walk off a cliff, just off of the snow. Maybe it's just the scan. I don't know. Anyway, it looks like they're preparing for the homecoming of the sleepwalker, and cautiously. The girl in front seems to be in charge, somehow, but not quite sure what to do with the leadership. She seems pensive. The girl behind her seems just to be waiting for what's going to happen next, and plans to follow the first girl's lead. The dog seems very...dog-like. Damn, my mind's giving up on me. Anyway, the sleepwalker seems to have caused quite a bit of damage on her little mission. All in all, a very good picture. I wish I knew what the symbolism of all your paintings were. I read a while back, one person's comment said they wanted you to make a book with all your paintings and your personal interpretation of each one. That would be awesome, but that might take away the concept of art being left to one's own interpretation. My washing machine is about to explode so i have to go now

Sweet and somewhat frightening
You're playing with dangerous mixes, like always -and never fail-, and you successed to give this scene this freaky tone that I love so much... this is great!

Amazing things about the painting:
- It's VERY original
- The face of the woman with the black hair
- The idea of the woman who's about to jump off the cliff.

VERY nice overall
