Yay! Thanks, Inoue, for getting the Beast-ladies and Harribel out of Kurotsuchi's clutches!
Hmm, milady Nelliel, what are you up to?

This is amazing! I don't follow Bleach- only little things, such as this, but I do know the beginning basics, since I watched a few of the first episodes. Her hairpins are alive? Weren't those from her brother?

The hairpins themselves were never unique to begin with; they were a gift from her brother, yes, but they had no powers. Orihime thought they were childish and originally rejected them, which led to a fight between the siblings...and her brother left for work the next day without speaking to her. That's the same day he died. Orihime never really forgave herself for not saying goodbye to him that day, so when Sora came back as a Hollow years later, the last thing she told him was "Thank you, goodbye, have a nice day" and stuff.

She wore the hairpins every day after that as a memento. When Ichigo got his Shinigami powers, Orihime and Chad felt weak, and cursed their powerlessness from the bottom of their hearts. As a result, the Hougyoku somehow gave them the powers we now see them both use in the series. In the Rikka's case, each set of 2 leafs is a 'fairy.' Shun'o and Ayame are the two that come out when Orihime uses Souten Kisshun (Sou = Two, two fairies.) Tsubaki is one that attacks when Kouten Zanshun is used (not sure which part of the phrase alludes to 'one' but I'm sure it's in there. I normally see 'one' as 'ichi' or 'hitori.') Baigon, Hakagiku and Lily come out when Orihime uses Santen Kesshun (San = Three, three fairies.) Orihime spoke to the fairies when they first emerged, but we haven't really seen them since then, and that was way back during the SS Arc. We know Tsubaki is endlessly unimpressed with Orihime because he thinks her unwillingness to fight makes him weak.
