Description Just for your understanding, I AM NOT ANTI-OCxCANON CHARACTER!

But if you want to write/draw about your original character falling in love with a canon character, then that OC should be a good and well-developed character on their own.
(As in, not a flat mary-sue twu luv for your favorite bishie.)

Seriously. We don't need another 'My Inner Life'-esque fic, amrite?

Feel free to voice your opinions on OCxCanon Character fanfics/fanart in the comments.

personally i think people should be allowed to have fun with their oc's, if that means the oc is a self insert sue who's loved by all including the author's favorite canon character, then so be it! i mean, it really isn't hurting anyone, your beloved canon isn't actually changing, so why do people care so much what other people do for fun? i mean, look at my username lol, yeah i literally put vanilla frosting on my red-sauce pizza, might sound gross to yall but i love it and i ain't hurtin' anyone -v-

I'm using it
I'm not anti OCxCANON either, but OCs created just to be shipped with a Canon character often are a copy of the Canon character

genuine question, why would y’all care? it’s not a real character, it’s not a universal canon, it’s one person playing a glorified game of barbies and if they wanna say that their oc is defined by their relationship, they can. we’re drawing and writing fake characters into an already fictional universe for the sake of making ourselves happy. no one is going for the pulitzer.

I think people draw these pairings FOR FUN!!! So if they don't harm anyone it's not something bad.

Even though I stopped having OCs and ships with canons.
I might draw my old ones with my favourite canon characters purely for fun or practice from time to time.

The thing about OC X Canon is the fanbase has a tendency to resort to it due to not being able to find the appropriate character from the canon universe to ship with another canon character. For example, DisneyEquestrian2012 (or Toonwriter)'s OC, Baelfire the Dragon is shipped with Lilac perhaps not only because of the lack of canon FP that would suit her, but he's designed to be her "true lover" that none of the Freedom Planet characters were ever designed to be and also plans to write the bio for him.

I find crossover ships to be a little worse than even OC X Canon because it seems like it would have significantly greater impacts to both universes.

I'm fine with making a OC to pair with a Canon character as long as it's not "I LOVE HIM AND HE LOVES ME AND WE HAVE 2620362020363920269202023728022028739202927383920293738292029372902293729 CHILDREN" you could at least make one a tsundere and I would be fine.In short,at least if it's well written.

I have a Dragonball OC who I wrote as having a crush on a canon character, envisioning not them being together, but instead a running gag.

mistress: I don't really support this because the person's oc is basically their self character, and they wish to ship themselves with characters from shows who can be either underage or older then them. so I rather not take that chance at all. it's just gross and wrong. plus it's a dang fictional character, they're not real e~e..not cute

anime-manga-lover123 [2018-04-03 13:04:14 +0000 UTC]

To be honest, I don't really mind if someone does this. In my honest opinion, creating an OC is meant to be done for fun, it's part of the fandom's entertainment. Besides, everyone is free to do whatever they wish.

I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to shipping. I'm not the type to get angry if someone else doesn't ship my favorite pairing. It's ok. Everyone is free to have their own opinions and I respect that. (and of course, I hope other people will respect mine as well XD). I honestly don't understand the point of shipping wars lol. Why do people fight over fictional pairings, really?

I also don't care if a fangirl makes an OC so she can use it to fantasize about her favorite canon character. After all, this is probably the result of loneliness in real life. If they can't have relationship in real life, they might as well have one in the fictional world XD

I think you hit the nail on this!Β Β

And also, I agree with you.
I'm the same way when it comes to shipping.
If I don't like a pairing, I just stay away from it. Simple as that.Β

To be honest, this should be a rule for writing in general; (i.e. even if they are both original characters) a character should never be created just to be someone's boyfriend or girlfriend.Β  I mean, it's okay if you want that character (be they original or canon)Β to have a love interest, but said love interest should also be their own character, whoΒ fits into the storyline, and has their own purpose.Β

Let people enjoy fandom the way they want guys. It's made-up stuff. If you don't like a particular ship or OC just don't read/watch/interact with it.

Also, some people really just want to write/fantasize about cheesy romance stuff with their fave character, where's the harm in it? Don't be so patronizing.

I feel like some OC creators here need to get off their high horses. In the end all OCs are not canon and one who is more developed is not more real than one who is only there for kissy kissy romance self insert fics. Fandom, especially creating OCs is about having fun. Let people have fun with their characters the way they want.

Can't lie, that's how some of my OCs were created... but over time I've developed them more than just falling in love with canon characters. I'd add backstory, and a whole story away from romantic stuff.

I don't mind OCxCanon as long as it's thought out and not romantic 100% of the time! :3

I made a new fursona back in March-April-May? 2016 mainly because I just wanted her to fit me more.
Of course, I did ship her with a canon character but that wasn't the main focus.

So very true!!!! OC pairing stories can be amazing and really well done, so long as the OC is developed and has developed relationships outside of the cannon pairing, and doesn't fall in love with the cannon character five minutes after meeting them.Β
