I'm so sorry, but I gotta be the "actually"-girl. It was said, it had nothing to do with genes but with magic. No matter how many half-elves you'd breed, there would never be a single elf. I was very disappointed at first, but it makes the dominance of humans a different level of tragedy in the end.
