Say guys, shouldn't we band together and try to help Kosperry by nominating her to become a Senior Member on Deviantart, so that we can all do something very nice for her in return for all the very nice things she's done for us? Here's a link to the DeviantArt page that explains how it works and what it takes for a DeviantArt artist to become a Senior Member: help.deviantart.com/29/

This looks cool.
Also, I've been wondering to myself, "What if Neopets was launched in 1984 for DOS instead of online?"
Well, a few things...
First off, you would need to get all sorts of diskettes to create, color, and customize pets, which can get quite annoying. Plus, pick a wrong disk and you may create a pet instead of color an existing one, or just get an error.
Secondly, on the earlier stuff (1989 and prior), the colors would be garish (because CGA graphics only supported up to 16 colors). Also, on most of the disks, there is only support for sound from the system buzzer, which would get annoying after some time (but you'll get used to it).
What's more, to challenge someone else on a different system, you would need to use a clunky and slow dial-up connection. (While you're sending the challenge, be sure to pray to Jesus that you don't get disconnected.)

More downsides:
Some game controls would be clunky. (Either WASD, GHJK, or number pad control instead of arrow keys - how annoying is that!?! Also, most older games wouldn't use a mouse, just a keyboard - ugh!)
Games would be on diskettes, and later on compact disks. (Some have annoying buzzer music and sounds. You would be lucky to find a few with SoundBlaster, AdLib, or Roland MT-32 synth sound support.)
The graphics would strain on your eyes, because of all the pink and blue of 4-color CGA. (You could set it to CGA 16-color, but the colors are still garish. EGA supports up to 64 colors. 256-color VGA wouldn't be available until 1990.)
3D graphics were an absolute pile of dung. (Later 3D graphics were better, though.)
Compatibility with Windows 95 would be an issue until later in the year. (The same goes with Windows 98 and other versions of Windows, up to Server 2003, then programs are strictly Windows programs from there.)
You would need to upgrade from 300 baud all the way up to 33.6K to access online features in the later years. (33.6K was recommended for higher speeds than 14.4K or 28.8K dial-up.)
You would need to send your challenge over a BBS.

Imagine playing Gormball by only using the Enter key and numbers 1 through 5.
The Enter key would be used whenever the message "Press ENTER to continue . . ." pops up, of to confirm n-second delay.
The numbers 1 through 5 would be used whenever the message "Your move - input delay time (1-5), then press ENTER to throw Gormball." pops up.
A ">" symbol and a blinking cursor would appear below the line of text.
Example of Enter key application...
Brian waited 2 seconds.
Press ENTER to continue . . .
...and number keys...
Your move - input delay time (1-5), then press ENTER to throw Gormball.

The game over screen:
The Gormball explodes on Thyassa!!!
You have been blasted out of the game!

NP Earnings (load main disk): NaN
Win screen:
The Gormball explodes on Kevin!!!
You are the last player standing - you won!
Final score: NaN
NP earnings (load main disk): NaN

If the system date is set to 9/23, you'll see this message in conjunction with either the game over or win screens:
Today (Sep. 23) is the Annual Gormball Championship,
meaning that your NP earnings have just doubled!!!
This would also have a character select menu:

3. Gargarox Isafuhlarg
4. Farvin III, Alien Aisha
5. Ember the Fire Faerie

Also, imagine the original Usuki Frenzy with a 1987 date stamp and 4 color CGA graphics (16 color option available too) - imagine the eye strain from all the pink!
And the original Chia Bomber with a 1986 date stamp with 4 or 16 color CGA - if you select 4 colors, your eyes will bleed from all the red, green, and yellow!
Chia Bomber 2 would have VGA 256 color graphics and a 1990 date stamp - oh, and Roland MT-32 music and sound instead of system speaker music and sound.
Same with Usuki Frenzy 2, except it would have a 1992 date stamp and SoundBlaster music and sound.
Jolly Jugglers would have a 1991 date stamp, VGA 256 color graphics, and SoundBlaster music and sounds.
Faerie Bubbles would have a 1989 date stamp and ugly EGA graphics, but it would support the Roland MT-32 synthesizer. (The sound effects come from the system speaker, though.)
The list goes on and on.

I've also decided on Prof. Milton Clodbottle's Astounding Habitarium getting a DOS port. It would have a 1995 date stamp, 8-bit VGA graphics, SoundBlaster music and sounds, mouse control, and support for Windows 95.

In fact, Meepit vs. Feepit would gain a lot of popularity on DOS, resulting in releases for Sega MegaDrive (Genesis) and Commodore AMIGA the following year (1991). It was later released for SNES in 1992.
The original Chia Bomber and Chia Bomber 2 saw the same fate. Chia Bomber 1 got released for NES, Sega Master System, and Atari 7800 in 1987. Chia Bomber 2 got released on SNES, Sega MegaDrive (Genesis), and Commodore AMIGA in 1991.
There would be others that would be ported to other systems, such as Gormball, which got ported to Commodore 64 and Tandy in 1986.
