I've learned from this deviation that I should always do background first before character unless I haven't decided it yet. o_o

All the coloring match the surrounding area them and shading is good. The only thing that bothers me is the way the tail looks. It looks like it was attached to the clothing but the tail is still good.

First, I adore how you did the coloring on the tail, kimono and skin. Absolutely lovely, and a wonderful grasp of shading too! I also love how you put a background in. You'd be surprised at how many established artists just avoid those things altogether or give the excuse "I'll work on it later"
Okay, now about that background. Grass tool D: Don't abuse it! XD I'm not trying to sound mean, it can really hurt your artwork though. Here's a great tutorial for grass without tool abuse: [link]
Also, your tree edges end rather sharply, try applying the blend tool to smooth out and 'round' their appearance.
