Ah, Amy Lee... I have been wanting to draw her since I joined dA over a year ago, but have never found a great ref pic that I hadn't seen a lot of other people do already.So far I've worked on this for about 5-6 hours, and there are many many more to go, because this is just a small piece of the finished version. It feels good to be drawing with graphite again.

6B, 3B, 2B, B, HB, 2H
cotton balls, cotton swabs, tortillions
This photo looks pretty crappy, but oh well, it's only a WIP...
The ref pic I'm using didn't have a lot of detail in the hair, so I've had to mostly make it up. I hope it looks okay!
Oh, and she's wearing leather, so I will be drawing leather for the first time! Woot!Oh, but when I was picking out the ref pic, my husband turned on Evanescence in the other room. He had no idea I was going to draw this.

May I make a question, if you don't mind...what is the tecnique you use for a perfect skin? Your results are excellent and I would know how to do it . Thanks in advance...but if you don't want to replay, it doen't mind.

Thank you. Some day I may do a tutorial, although there are many great tutorials out there already.
I personally like to start at the edges of the skin and use small tight pencil strokes. Then I blend that area. If its a small, darker section (like around her eyes) I'll use a tortillion. If it's a medium size area, I use a cotton swab, and for the larger and lighter areas of skin, I use a cotton ball. Then I go over the details with a more precise pencil so it doesn't look too blurry. I often repeat this process two or three (sometimes more) times until I get it just how I want it. I also usually add highlights with a kneaded eraser and then blend again. In order to work the paper this much, you really need a high quality paper that can stand up to all that abuse!

Just a coincidence actually. Cool, eh? I worked another 3 hours on my Amy Lee drawing today. I'll post another WIP soon. It'll probably LOOK like it's finished, but it won't be, and that's all I'm sayin'! lol...
