I could just summarize this page with a facepalm emoji, but there's more to say than that.

Banzai's story actually cheers up Shenzi until she makes a triggering remark, then he snaps and automatically blames his whole blunder on Ed. He's just as horrified by his words as Shenzi is.

I've spent a lot of time talking about Banzai's emotional issues, but here's where we finally see the problem with how he handles them. Namely, he doesn't handle them. He just buries everything under his temper and his humor to the point that those two things have practically become his whole personality, and he doesn't know how to function without them. He mostly came out okay when he discovered what Zira did to the hyenas' bodies, but he had a lot of alone time to compose himself before he had to face Shenzi. This time he's lost control and crashed right in front of her, and he's made himself look like a jerk on top of it. We'll see what he does next...

Also, I debated whether or not to show an actual flashback of Banzai's vulture story, but I figured the content of the story isn't really important; the emotional impact of telling that story is what really matters in this scene.
