Description A3 oil pastel - much layering, burnishing and scraping with knives.
VERY historical piece - part of the supporting artwork in my fine art ceramics degree show. I had a LOT more hair then!

Much layering and blending of oil pastel! Also many walks experiencing the landscape and weather there!

Ahhh, how do you layer so much? When I do it, it gets to a point of thickness where it just stops taking pigment. Do I have to stop, let it dry, then layer?

There are many factors that make layering easy or hard. Mostly the quality or temperature of the pastel. A hard pastel will scrape off previous layers - a soft oil pastel will almost smear with your finger over a previous burnished area. Try some tests while you are working on a seperate piece of the same type of paper then you don't mess up the masterpiece!

Wow... Don't know about your ceramics, but this piece certainly deserves to be much more than a 'supportive' piece... It's fantastic!

I am truly honoured to have two features in one month!
I also find oil pastel makes a wonderful resist in mixed media. Can I submit a piece that has a substantial amount of oil pastel used in this way?

Yes - the group has a "mixed media" folder, where you can submit work that is only partially oil pastel.
