Description Finally got around to doing a proper drawing of Buffy. I wanted it to be obviously Buffy rather than just a pic of Sarah Michelle Gellar.
A3 Bristol Board using 2H, B and 2B mechanical pencils.

I love this!
Detail is flawless, as is the shading. A remarkable likeness, and i like that since you had her in a fighting stance, you drew her hair messed up (probably was like that in a reference pic, though, i suppose), because unless someone used cement, there is no way they would do any slaying and come out with their hair in perfect order.

holy crap... that's incredibly excellent! the only thing I find to be a bit off is her left cheek (or, the right one when you're looking at the picture) i think its a bit puffy or something... but absolutely amazing... it's definitely buffy!

I think there's smthn wrong with her chin.. she her face looks really fat or smthn... I think u sould lift up the a little bit right side of her chin... and take off a little bit of the lower part of her cheeks..
ok I don't have the right to talk.. u'r much better than me XD but I think it's like that...

Her jawline should be sharper on her left side (not our left, her left). It looks like she's a little chubby faced but its still really well done. You can tell its Sarah Michelle which is the real purpose.

Hi, Keith. You're most welcome. I'm doing OK, I've just been manically busy, and typically, so far behind on answering comments on here I'm trying to reach the older comments first, so sorry for not acknowledging your more recent comment first. Btw, your art is going from strength to stength, amazing

Thanks Carole I know what you mean with the comments I never seem to have time to answer them all anymore, I seem to get floods of them at the moment which is nice.
Thanks for your comments on my art, I do feel like I am improving more with each new drawing I do.

Fuckin amazing. Do you use grids to nail the proportions? Great work, +fav

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ktalbot In reply to slickgreekgeo [2007-05-13 18:02:08 +0000 UTC]

Cheers, it depends on the picture and how much time I have. I do sometimes use a grid as it just lets you get the drawing going so much quicker, especially when working on larger scale drawings. Thanks for the btw

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

slickgreekgeo In reply to ktalbot [2007-05-13 21:33:38 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I ask because I use the same methods to nail the proportions. Some say its mechanical, I say it gets the job faster and more accurately. Keep the masterpieces comin'.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ktalbot In reply to slickgreekgeo [2007-05-14 00:08:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah a lot of people will frown on such techniques, but if you look at a lot of contemporary fantasy artists, they tend to sketch out their ideas, then they get models to pose for the picture then they trace the photos into their final drawing. Its an ends to a means, if I have plenty free time I will quite happily freehand sketvh my drawing out, but if I'm pressed for time which with my life is quite often the case, a quick grid can save hours of sketching arounf until you get your proportions quite right.

Thanks for your comments, her face is pretty much the shape and expression it was on the reference pic.

violist666 In reply to ktalbot [2007-05-12 22:17:49 +0000 UTC]

in that case you replicated it really well.

violist666 [2007-05-12 20:07:07 +0000 UTC]

this is an awesome picture! the nose got a tiny bit messed up on one side, the mouth is a little crooked. but both are just really minor problems. what i feel is a major problem would be the expression on her face. maybe that's how it is in your reference, in which case it's perfectly alright, but she looks really worried/anxious and it doesn't quite match her stance. overall an amazing piece of work! i love the shading of her skin!

Amazing job! I've drawn many many times in graphite, but never have my people turned out looking that smooth and realistic! And I have a profound respect for you that you use mechanical pencils-they always snap with me I jsut recently started watching Buffy and in a month I have watched 3 seasons.

ktalbot In reply to ladyshmi [2007-05-12 21:16:46 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much, I did snap the 2B one a few times when I was drawing her vest you do have to be a little bit careful with them.

Oh, very cool! I really love how you did her shirt!
The only thing that bugs me a bit is her jawline. The part where her hair almost covers it looks a bit odd...
But other than that, it's great!
