I had read Dickens's classic Oliver Twist before, but my Disney source material read-through was a great opportunity to read this great book again (review here ) when I reached Oliver & Company.Β  Oliver's not really the most interesting character in the story, but he is a pivotal figure, so it was fun to draw the poor hungry li'l waif.

(And yes, I do think he looks a bit like a Hobbit, but it just sort of happened.)

It's so great. Β One of the few Dickenses that I've read more than once (it helps that it's not like 900 pages, ha ha, though it's plenty lengthy as it is).

I enjoyed A Christmas Carol, so I'm looking to read Oliver Twist.Β

Definitely worth reading. Β There are a few interesting movie adaptations too. Β All very different, but all enjoyable in their way.

Haha I thought it was Bilbo from the thumbnail!

Coincidentally I want to read Oliver Twist but the library doesn't have it.Β  That was very surprising!

Ha ha, yeah, it even looks a lot like how I myself draw Hobbits.Β  And that IS very surprising!Β  It's a classic, and one of Dickens's most famous!Β  Maybe it was just checked out?

You would think so--but I've checked that library twice.Β  Most of the triple-deckers are on the shelf.Β  It's weird.

Bummer!Β  And so strange.Β  What do you mean by triple-deckers?

The Victorian triple-decker.Β  I think principally that means like Trollope but I use it to describe Dickens.Β  The really long books like Bleak House and Little Dorrit.

All you have to do to discover that is find out which Disney movie comes next chronologically! ;D

me wants to hug him ... poor kiddo

I had read the book a few months before the film came out (I was 8 at the time, and a friend of my parents' had lent it to me... I must say that I was rather shocked by it...) and I was a bit afraid to see the movie... I was soooooooooo glad that the movie was lighter...

it's a nice drawing, I love how you did his hair

(btw, there is a bug with you link, it leads to this drawing again...)

Yeah, it's definitely very dramatic, but so lovely at the same time.Β  Disney did the right thing by lightening the tone for their audience!Β  And thank you!

(And thanks for the tip too, I adjusted the link, it works now.)

you're welcome

indeed, I'm always amazed about how Disney can twist the stories to make them lighter... they're really clever

Yeah, and at the same time they get a lot of people to think theirs is the original!Β  Though I guess in some ways they are (at least, they become the new standard version by which all others are compared).
